MA100D: Introductory Calculus for the Natural Sciences (Winter 2018)

Calendar Description

This course concentrates on developing mastery of pre-calculus and introductory calculus skills and techniques. Pre-calculus topics include: solving equations and inequalities; algebraic, trigonometric, logarithmic and exponential functions and their properties. Calculus topics include: rates of change and tangents; differentiation of algebraic, trigonometric, exponential and logarithmic functions; integration; and techniques of integration.

Calculators

Students may only use the approved scientific calculator, Casio fx-300ms plus, on course tests and the final examination. No other calculator is allowed. It is available for purchase at the campus bookstore.

Evaluation

A final mark out of 100 will be calculated as follows:

  • Lab assignments and WebWorK quizzes: 20%
  • WebWorK homework assignments (weekly): 10%
  • Midterm test: 30%
  • Final exam (exact date, time and location to be announced): 40%

The final mark will be reported as a letter grade in accordance with the conversion table of the current undergraduate calendar.
