Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi access at Laurier is through our eduroam network, which:
- Provides secure access for members of the educational and research communities.
- Allows you to securely access network services while visiting other member organizations using your Laurier login without making special arrangements.
A list of participating eduroam institutions is available at eduroam.org. Canadian eduroam institutions are listed at CANARIE. You can also review the Trust Association Document filed with CANARIE’s Canadian Access Federation.
How to Setup Eduroam
Use the guide below to set up Eduroam based on your device.
- Select setup_eduroam from your list of available networks in range. You will be directed to cat.eduroam.org.
- Select the blue Click here to download your eduroam® installer button to download your Eduroam installer.
- Search for and select Wilfrid Laurier University as your institution.
- Select the blue Download your eduroam® installer MS Windows 10 button.
- Open the downloaded installer package to proceed with the installation process.
- Select Next >.
- Enter your full username and password.
- Select Install.
- Navigate to your list of available networks.
- Select eduroam.
- Select the Connect automatically checkbox.
- Select setup_eduroam from your list of networks. You will be redirected to cat.eduroam.org.
- Select Click here to download your eduroam® installer.
- Search for and select Wilfrid Laurier University.
- Select Continue when you see the "Are you sure you want to install 'eduroam®'?" prompt.
- Enter your username and password.
- Select Install.
- When prompted, enter your computer password, and select OK.
- Select eduroam from your list of available networks.
- Select setup_eduroam from your list of networks.
- Close the pop-up.
- Go to cat.eduroam.org (preferably in Safari or Chrome browsers).
- Select the Click here to download your eduroam® installer button.
- Search for and select Wilfrid Laurier University.
Intall the Profile
- Go to your system preferences:
- Select the Apple menu.
- Select System Preferences.
- Select Profiles.
- Select eduroam®.
- Select Install...
- Enter your full username and password.
- Click Install.
- Click Install within the important notice prompt.
- When prompted, enter your computer user name and password.
- Select the back arrow (<).
Connect to the Network
- In your System Preferences, select Network.
- Select Wi-Fi.
- Make sure setup_eduroam appears in the Network Name field.
- Uncheck Automatically join this network.
- Select eduroam from the Network Name field.
- Open the Select a network menu.
- Choose eduroam.
- In the Wi-Fi network, enter the following settings:
- EAP method: PEAP
- Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPv2
- Server CA certificate: Default
- User certificate: None Installed
- Identity: Laurier username
- Password: Laurier password
- Anonymous identity: leave blank
- Select Connect.
Connection Issues
If you are having issues connecting, it is likely because of an incorrect IP address.
To fix this issue, follow the instructions below:
- Go to Network Preferences on your Chromebook.
- Select eduroam.
- Select the advanced dropdown arrow.
- Slide the Configure IP address automatically toggle to the left and wait a few seconds.
- Slide the Configure IP address automatically toggle back to the right.
- Go to Settings.
- Select Wi-Fi.
- Select eduroam from the list of networks.
- Enter your Laurier username and password.
- Select Join.
- You will be prompted to trust the eduroam certificate. Select Trust to connect to eduroam.
- Open up your list of available Wi-Fi networks.
- Select eduroam.
- Enter the following settings:
- EAP Method: PEAP
- Identity: Laurier username
- Password: Laurier password
- CA certificate: Don't validate
- Select Connect.
I. Pre-requisites
- User will need to have Mobile Data turned on to be able to run this install
- They need to be signed in with a Google account to download apps from their Google PlayStore
II. Process
1. Open up Google PlayStore and search for ‘GetEduroam’ and install it
2. Once it is finished installing, select Open and search for ‘Wilfrid Laurier University ‘ in “select an institution’ field then select Next
As a student this is the only time you’d put @wlu.ca on the end of your username
4. Your device will now be successfully connected to Eduroam!
Note: The use of the Laurier wireless network is subject to the university policy Principles in the Use of Information Technology (Section 9.1).

Frequently Asked Questions
- When you move out of range your connection will drop.
- When you move into range of another WAP you may not be able to connect. This occurs because some devices do not “release” their prior connection and will still try to connect to the previous WAP, even though a connection is no longer possible.
- There are two ways to re-establish your Wi-Fi connection:
- Reboot your device.
- “Forget” or remove the old network connection.
Wireless printers and game consoles will not connect on our network as we require WPA2 Enterprise security. No consumer grade printers and none of the current game consoles offer this level of security.
To remove your device from a Wi-Fi connection on:
Windows 10
- Go to Start.
- Select Settings, then Network and Internet.
- Select Wi-Fi.
- Click Manage Wi-Fi Settings.
- Under “Manage Known Networks,” select the network you want to be removed.
- Click Forget.
Mac OS
- Go to System Preferences.
- Select Network.
- Select Wi-Fi on the left.
- Select the wireless network from the list.
- Select Disconnect.
- Select Advanced.
- Select the wireless network from the list.
- Click the "-" button to remove it from the list.
- Click OK.
- Click Apply.
iOS
- Select Settings.
- Select Wi-Fi.
- When you select eduroam, you will be prompted for the password.
- Choose Cancel and then open the eduroam network (click on the blue arrow).
- Choose Forget this Network.
- Choose Forget.
Android
- Go to Settings.
- Select Wireless and Networks.
- Select Wi-Fi Settings.
- Long press the network named eduroam.
- Select Forget Network.
