Academics and Research
At Laurier, Indigenous Student Services facilitates a wide range of academic supports available to our student community through a mix of in-person and virtual group programs and events, as well as personalized one-on-one support. Check out the variety of options available to you:
Campus: Online, Brantford, Waterloo, Kitchener
Indigenous Student Coordinators can provide support with course registration, program planning, changing programs, and add/drop procedures. You can book a meeting with them via email to discuss your specific needs. Additionally, students can request that their campus-specific Indigenous Student Support Coordinator (ISSC) attend their Academic Advising appointments or set up a separate appointment with their ISSC to prepare for or debrief after an advising session.

These monthly workshops bring together our student community to eat some Frybread tacos and chat about student success. Workshop topics include time management, university level writing, preparing for midterms and exams, note taking and more. We also partner with other student supports on campus to share information on the wide range of opportunities at Laurier such as co-op, international student exchange, library and research, writing services, career services and more.

As an Indigenous student, you may be eligible to apply for the NSERC Undergraduate Research Award, a summer research placement at Laurier with a qualifying professor. This placement allows you to work with a professor on relevant topics of your choosing, depending on your interests and the professor’s research areas of expertise.
Although the majority of projects relate to the Faculty of Science (KPE, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Math), there are Business, Arts, Geography and Psychology opportunities as well. You do not have to be a science student or a student in that project's program to participate.
The application process and deadline are different than other NSERC student applications. Keep an eye on your Laurier email during the winter semester for more information about NSERC opportunities.
