This is a competitive student leadership volunteer opportunity for Wilfird Laurier University students.

Position Summary

The Urban Agriculture Garden Volunteer position is an approximate 3-6 hours per week commitment (plus training) for a Wilfrid Laurier University student with an interest in urban agriculture and sustainability. The position will work under the direction of the Young City Growers (YCG) Coordinator to prepare the CSA garden for harvest and the off season. The position will be primarily outdoors at the garden site on Laurier’s Northdale Campus (66 Hickory St. West).


  • Attend training sessions with YCG Coordinator
  • Adminster proper soil care to the garden beds
  • Prepare garden beds for off season
  • Assist in fall harvests
  • Supervise a pop-up market table once a week
  • Other duties as determined by the YCG Coordinator


  • Wilfrid Laurier University student with a genuine interest or passion in urban agriculture and sustainability
  • Previous experience in gardening/agriculture is an asset
  • Strong time management skills
  • Desire to work outdoors
  • Demonstrated professionalism, maturity and good judgement
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a team environment
  • Desire to advocate sustainable practices and initiatives


  • Weekly: approximately 3-6 hrs, flexible
  • Periodic events and campaigns throughout the year (varies)
  • One training day each semester (weekday)
