Online courses for exchange students
Earn Laurier credits and maximize your exchange experience with two new online courses, worth 0.25 credits each. These courses are offered through Global Studies but are open to students in all majors and programs.
About the Courses
The two courses, GS396: Semester Abroad: Pre-Departure Learning and GS397: Semester Abroad: On-Exchange Experience, are offered completely online and are currently only available to students who will be going on exchange during the Fall 2019 semester.
These courses are designed to enhance and complement your exchange experience by supporting your preparation before you travel and deepening your learning while you are abroad.
Both courses include elements of academic reading and analysis, research, and reflective practice. Throughout each course, you will be supported through online mini-lectures and conversations, as well as through ongoing contact with a Laurier professor.
Prerequisites
Completing the Intercultural Certificate, offered through Laurier International, is a prerequisite to enrolling in GS396. If you haven’t completed the Intercultural Certificate, and weren’t able to register for the modules being offered this semester, please let us know. We are looking to offer the Intercultural Certificate as a one-day workshop, provided there is enough interest.
Completing GS396 is a prerequisite for enrolling in GS397.
Tuition Information
Because GS396 and GS397 are open to students in all programs, the cost of the courses depends your program.
For GS396, you will pay half of the cost of 0.5 credits for your program. For GS397, because you will take this course while you are on exchange, your tuition for your exchange semester will be assessed at 2.75 credits.
Use the tuition fee chart to see the tuition cost for your program and the number of credits you are taking.
For more information about the courses, please contact Vanessa McMackin in Global Studies, or stop by the Global Studies office at DAWB 5-120.
