Student Research
Collaborative With a Community Focus
At Laurier, hundreds of professors spanning all departments and campuses are engaged in research. The research and innovation conducted at Laurier is collaborative with a community focus. This reflects our strong links with a number of stakeholder communities, including Indigenous peoples, business and industry, government, not-for-profit and arts organizations, and public sectors.
Laurier offers exceptional opportunities for you to engage in cutting-edge research at any stage of your studies. Working alongside faculty members who are at the forefront of their fields will allow you to gain hands-on, practical experience to complement the skills you learn in the classroom.
Research Ethics and Compliance
All research undertaken by Laurier students, staff and faculty is subject to ethical and legal requirements. The Office of Research Services' ethics and compliance unit ensures that research at Laurier is in compliance with federal and institutional policies and regulations.
If you will be undertaking research with human or animal participants, or dealing with biohazardous or radioactive materials, proper certifications must be obtained before research can begin.
Please note that if your laboratory work involves handling biohazardous or radioactive materials, you will be required to attend additional laboratory safety training. Your laboratory supervisor will organize the training that you require for your work in the lab.
Library Resources for Research
The Laurier library's collection consists of millions of resources to help students conduct research, study, and succeed. The collection includes books/e-books, e-journals/print journals, databases, data, audio-visual materials, archival materials and instructional 'how-to' videos.
The library will set you up for success with the abundance of academic support resources available to you in your studies. Research consultation assistance is available through Liaison Librarians assigned to each faculty/department and program area found on the Library's website.
