Virtual Asychronous (VA) Learning

Laurier offers more than 300 VA courses designed to support flexible learning options that may help you balance work, studying from a distance or if you're looking to customize your on-campus schedule. 

VA courses are built to engage you through a variety of formats, including multimedia content, interactive tools and online discussions. You'll connect with instructors and classmates through email, discussion boards and other platforms. No live classroom is required – all you need is a computer with internet access. 

VA course features may include: 

  • Communication tools: Announcements, emails, instructor contact information, discussion boards.
  • Course structure: Schedules, term calendars, online syllabi. 
  • Learning materials: Assignments, course notes with interactive elemenets, companion textbook sites. 
  • Assessments: Online quizzes, tests and exams (some may be proctored).

MyLearningSpace (MyLS)

MyLS is Laurier's learning management system for virtual and classroom-based courses. It allows you to access course content, lectures and resources from your instructors, take virtual quizzes and submit electronic assignments on all your devices.

Courses

All VA courses are labeled with VA[#] in the course code on LORIS. Courses are not released in MyLS until the first day of term.

Make sure you verify the term start dates

  • Summer term: July 7, 2025
  • Fall term: Sept. 4, 2025
  • Winter term: Jan. 5, 2026
  • Spring term/Intersession: May 4, 2026

Syllabi for VA courses are available by request. Email VAlearning@wlu.ca to request a syllabus. The syllabi we provide are not the official course syllabus as they are from a recent term with the intent to provide you with insight into course structure and assessment.
