Find answers to common questions about residence assignments, waitlists and what happens behind the scenes as we prepare for your arrival.
If you are on a waitlist for residence, it means you did not meet the June 1 deadline to apply for residence. These cases fall outside of our first-year residence guarantee, but if there are spaces available after those who submitted their application by June 1st have been assigned a bed, then you will be notified.
The students on the waitlist will only be offered a residence bed once all the people who applied by June 1 have been assigned one. There is also quite a lot of rental space around campus for students to explore.
As much as possible, we try to give you the type of accommodations you had requested in your application. However, because all residence assignments are on a lottery basis, we are unable to guarantee that students will receive their preferred choice.
We understand that you are excited to learn more about the other students who will be with you in residence. As we work to make your first-year residence experience as positive as it can be, we are also focused on protecting your privacy and the safety. For that reason, we cannot share any personal information about the other students in your residence, and we discourage you from sharing your residence building and room number publicly or on third-party social media sites to protect your own safety.
There will be many opportunities through Residence Life events, community meetings led by Residence Life Dons and Laurier Orientation to get to know other students – it’s one of the things that makes the Laurier community so special!
