Winter 2019 Deadlines

The holiday season is almost here, Golden Hawks! Mark these dates in your calendar to get ready for the winter term.

Note: Refer to the academic calendar for official academic and related dates.

12-Week Fall Courses: Registration and Tuition

January

  • Jan. 7: Classes begin.
  • Jan. 7: Tuition fees due.
  • Jan. 7–11: Drop/withdraw courses without tuition charge.
  • Jan. 12–18: Drop/withdraw courses at a 10% tuition penalty.
  • Jan. 18: Last day to add 12-week courses.
  • Jan. 19 – Mar. 8: Drop/withdraw courses at 55% tuition penalty.

February

  • Feb. 18: Family Day; university closed.
  • Feb. 19–22: Winter Reading Week; no classes.

March

  • Mar. 8: Last day to drop/withdraw courses without failure and possible tuition adjustment.

April

  • Apr. 5: Last day of classes.
  • Apr. 8–9: Study days.
  • Apr. 10–30: Final exam period. 
  • Apr. 19–21: Easter weekend; no examinations.
  • Apr. 30: Last day to return learning materials for refund.

May

  • May 27 – June 1: Winter term deferred examination period.

Note: An appeal for a deferred examination must be submitted to the academic unit in which the course is offered. The deferred examination dates are confirmed, if approved, in writing from the petitions committee.

Six-Week Fall Courses: Registration and Tuition

January

  • Jan. 7: First six-week classes begin.
  • Jan. 7: Tuition fees due.
  • Jan. 7–9: Drop/withdraw first six-week courses without tuition charge.
  • Jan. 10–11: Drop/withdraw first six-week courses at a 10% tuition penalty.
  • Jan. 11: Last day to add six-week courses (including second six-week courses).
  • Jan. 12 – Feb. 1: Drop/withdraw first six-week courses at a 55% tuition penalty.

February

  • Feb. 1: Last day to drop first six-week courses without failure and possible tuition adjustment.
  • Feb. 15: First six-week courses end. 
  • Feb. 18: Family Day; university closed.
  • Feb. 19–22: Winter Reading Week; no classes.
  • Feb. 25–27: Drop/withdraw second six-week courses without tuition charge.
  • Feb. 25: Second six-week classes begin.
  • Feb. 28 – Mar. 1: Drop/withdraw second six-week courses at a 10% tuition penalty.

March

  • Mar. 2–22: Drop/withdraw second six-week courses at a 55% tuition penalty.
  • Mar. 22: Last day to drop second six-week courses without failure and possible tuition adjustment.

April

  • Apr. 5: Second six-week courses end.
  • Apr. 8–9: Study days.
  • Apr. 10 – 30: Final exam period.
  • Apr. 19–21: Easter weekend; no examinations.
  • Apr. 30: Last day to return learning materials for refund.

Co-op

  • Jan. 3: Co-op work term begins.
  • Apr. 30: Co-op work term ends.

Convocation

  • Jan. 15: Application to Graduate form and fee due for spring convocation without penalty
  • Jan. 16 – Apr. 15 Late penalty fee applies on Application to Graduate forms received for fall convocation.
  • Apr. 15: Last day to submit Application to Graduate form (fee and penalty fee apply) for fall convocation.
  • June 4–5: Spring convocation (Brantford campus).
  • June 10–14: Spring convocation (Waterloo campus).

University Closures

  • Jan. 1: New Year's Day.
  • Feb. 18: Family Day.
  • Apr. 19: Good Friday.

Plan Ahead for Winter 2019

  • Mar. 4: Last day to register in at least one spring course without the late registration fee (including online learning). 
  • May 1: Spring co-op work term begins.
  • May 6: Spring term tuition fees due.
  • May 6: Spring classes begin.
