All workshops take place in Market Place room 115 (45 Market Street) and can be registered for through the Student Success Portal.
Note: No workshop will take place the week of July 9.
Start the Term Off Right
May 7 at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- This workshop, in partnership with the Orientation & Transition Coordinator, will help students get motivated for the new term. We'll talk about strategies to boost productivity and avoid procrastination, as well as create a check-list of things to remember at the start of the new term.
Skills for Success in Online Courses
May 14 at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- This workshop, in partnership with eLearning, will help students understand the design of online courses. We’ll talk about strategies that can help students stay on track, get the support they need, and navigate the online learning environment to support their success in online courses.
Writing Well: Getting Started
May 21 at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- This workshop will help students understand the beginning of the academic writing process. We will focus on strategies for understanding assignments, planning and starting a draft.
Get More from Your Readings, Faster!
May 28 at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- This workshop explores the research behind reading on paper versus e-reading and will introduce students to active reading strategies for different kinds of academic readings including textbooks, journal articles, and literary works whether in print or on-screen.
Midterm Madness
June 4 at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- This workshop will help students develop and apply strategies for preparing for and taking multiple choice and other types of objective exams.
Writing Well: Communicating Your Ideas
June 11 at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- This workshop will help students improve the writing skills needed to develop the body of academic papers. We will discuss the effective use and integration of sources as well as how to craft solid academic paragraphs.
Making Groupwork Work
June 18 at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- Working productively in a group setting is a fundamental skill for university students. Make your next group work experience a positive one by learning some proactive strategies to deal with common difficulties that can arise when working in a group.
Writing Well: Editing Your Work
June 25 at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- This workshop will help students develop the skills needed at the end of the writing process. It will focus on strategies for effective editing, revising, and proofreading and will include a brief discussion of stylistic considerations.
Presenting with Confidence: Planning and Preparation
July 2 at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- This workshop introduces students to strategies for developing an effective presentation. We’ll talk about things to consider when planning a presentation including goals, organization, and the creation of visual aids.
Writing Well: Enhancing Your Style
July 16 at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- This workshop will help students refine their academic writing by learning about the style of scholarly discourse and making an impact with citation and scholarly language.
Presenting with Confidence: Communicating Effectively
July 23 at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- This workshop will help students practice the skills of effective oral presentation including awareness of non-verbal communication. We will also briefly talk about strategies for effective group presentations.
Light at the End of the Tunnel: Getting Ready for Final Exams
July 30 at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- This workshop helps students plan for and achieve a successful review of course content for final exams.
