Fall 2020 Deadlines and Important Dates

As the new academic year begins, it’s a good time to plan for the semester ahead and keep in mind the important dates and deadlines for the fall 2020 term.

Note: Refer to the academic calendar for official academic and related dates.

Orientation

12-Week Fall Courses: Registration and Tuition

September

  • Sept. 1: Co-op work term begins. Check out tips for a successful co-op work term.
  • Sept. 10: Fall term and full-year classes begin. Check out the 5 keys to success in virtual courses.
  • Sept. 10: Tuition fees due. Learn more about tuition and fees for 2020/21.
  • Sept. 10-16: Drop/withdraw from courses with no tuition charge.
  • Sept. 14: Last day for second-year students to apply to co-op options in Arts, Science and the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics.
  • Sept. 17-23: Drop/withdraw from courses at 10% tuition penalty (assessed at course rate).
  • Sept. 23: Last day to add 12-week and full-year courses (including online learning).
  • Sept. 24–Nov. 11: Drop/withdraw from courses at 55% tuition penalty (assessed at course rate).

October

  • Oct. 12: Thanksgiving; no classes.
  • Oct. 13–16: Fall Reading Week.

November

  • Nov. 11: Last day to drop/withdraw from courses without failure and for possible tuition adjustment (assessed at course rate).

December

  • Dec. 9: Undergraduate classes end.
  • Dec. 10–11: Study Days.
  • Dec. 12–Dec 23: Final examination period. Students are advised not to make travel commitments during this time period.
  • Dec. 21: Last day to return learning materials (ie. videotapes, video CDRoms and DVDs) for refund.
  • Dec. 23: Fall Term ends.

January

Six-Week Fall Courses: Registration and Tuition

September

  • Sept. 10: First six-week classes begin. Check out the 5 keys to success in virtual courses.
  • Sept. 10: Tuition fees due. Learn more about tuition and fees for 2020/21.
  • Sept. 10–14: Drop/withdraw from courses with no tuition charge.
  • Sept. 15–16: Drop/withdraw from courses at 10% tuition penalty (assessed at course rate).
  • Sept. 16: Last day to add first six-week courses.
  • Sept. 17–Oct. 7: Drop/withdraw from courses at 55% tuition penalty (assessed at course rate).

October

  • Oct. 7: Last day to drop first six-week courses without failure and for possible tuition adjustment.
  • Oct. 8: From this date until the end of first six-week classes, if you drop first six-week courses you will receive academic penalty (failure) and are responsible for 100% tuition.
  • Oct. 12: Thanksgiving; no classes.
  • Oct. 13–16: Fall Reading Week.
  • Oct. 28: Last day to add second six-week courses.
  • Oct. 28: First six-week classes end.
  • Oct. 29: Second six-week classes begin. Check out the 5 keys to success in virtual courses.
  • Oct. 29–Nov. 2: Drop/withdraw from second six-week courses with no tuition charge.

November

  • Nov. 3–4: Drop/withdraw from second six-week courses at 10% tuition penalty (assessed at course rate).
  • Nov. 5–25: Drop/withdraw from second six-week courses at 55% tuition penalty (assessed at course rate).
  • Nov. 25: Last day to drop second six-week courses without failure and for possible tuition adjustment.
  • Nov. 26: From this date until the end of classes, if you drop second six-week course(s) you will receive academic penalty (failure) and are responsible for 100% tuition.

December

  • Dec. 9: Second six-week classes end.
  • Dec. 10–11: Study Days.
  • Dec. 12–23: Final examination period. Students are advised not to make travel commitments during this time period.

Convocation

Stay up-to-date on fall 2020 convocation plans.

  • Aug. 1: Application to Graduate (without late fee) due for Fall Convocation.
  • Aug. 2-Sept. 1: Late penalty fees apply on Application to Graduate for Fall Convocation.
  • Sept. 1: Last day to submit Application to Graduate for fall convocation. No forms will be accepted after this date.
  • Nov. 3: Fall 2020 degrees conferred (tentative).

University Closure

  • Sept. 7: Labour Day.
  • Oct. 12: Thanksgiving.
  • Dec. 24–Jan. 1: University closed.

Plan Ahead for Winter 2021

  • Nov. 2: Last day to register in at least one winter course without the late registration fee (including online learning).
  • Jan. 4: Winter co-op work term begins.
  • Jan. 5: Winter term tuition fees due.
  • Jan. 5: Winter classes begin.

Orientation

13-Week Fall Courses: Registration and Tuition

August

  • Aug. 1: Application to graduate form (without late fee) due for fall convocation.
  • Aug. 24: Fall term classes begin for full-time MBA students.

September

  • Sept. 1: Last day to submit Application to Graduate form for fall convocation (fee and penalty apply) – no forms accepted after this date.
  • Sept. 7: Labour Day. 
  • Sept. 10: Fall term classes begin. Check out the 5 keys to success in virtual courses.
  • Sept. 10: Tuition fees due. Learn more about tuition and fees for 2020/21.
  • Sept. 10-16: Drop/withdraw from courses with no tuition charge. 
    Note: Students who withdraw from the graduate program must complete the Request to Withdraw from Graduate Studies form.
  • Sept. 16: Last day to drop 13-week coures but remain registered. You must remain registered in at least one course.
  • Sept. 17-23: Drop/withdraw from courses at 10% tuition penalty (assessed at course rate).
  • Sept. 23: Last day for late registration.
  • Sept. 24–Nov. 11: Drop/withdraw from courses at 55% tuition penalty (assessed at course rate).
  • Sept. 30: Final day for submitting final (post-defence) copies of dissertation/thesis/major research paper (as applicable) to Scholars Commons, and the receipt in the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Office of signed program/defence documentation for possible full refund of fall term fees and to be eligible to graduate at fall convocation.

October

  • Oct. 12: Thanksgiving; no classes.
  • Oct. 13–16: Fall Reading Week.

November

  • Nov. 2: Last day to register in at least one winter course without late registration fee.
  • Nov. 11: Last day to drop/withdraw from courses without failure and for possible tuition adjustment (assessed at course rate).
  • Nov. 11: Final day for submitting final (post-defence) copies of dissertation/thesis/major research paper (if applicable) to Scholars Commons, and receipt in the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Office of signed program/defence documentation for possible tuition adjustment (tuition charge assessed 55%).

December

  • Dec. 16: Graduate classes end.
  • Dec. 12–Dec 23: Final examination period. Students are advised not to make travel commitments during this time period.
  • Dec. 23: Fall Term ends.

January
