Wilfrid Laurier University students will soon begin preparing for final exams, marking the final stretch of an academic year like no other.

To recognize the resiliency, compassion, care and accomplishments of students, Laurier’s Dean of Students offices in Waterloo and Brantford will distribute 500 care kits designed to help students study, stay well and show their Golden Hawk pride. The care kits are made possible through the generous support of Laurier donors and the Students' Union, with funds from the Laurier’s Student Life Levy.

The student care kits have items linked to each of the five senses, and include:

    • A Laurier candle, handmade by small-business owners in Brantford and Cambridge
    • Blue-light filtering glasses
    • AWAKE chocolate, founded by Laurier alumnus Matt Schnarr (BBA’ 98)
    • Earplugs
    • A hot-cold pack

To request a care kit, students can complete an online form and select a pick-up time and campus location. All pick-up appointments will be physically distanced and follow COVID-19 protocols. Pickup will not be available on Friday, April 2 or Monday, April 5 at either campus.

    Brantford Campus

All care kits for the Brantford campus are now reserved.

    • Online waiting list: Add your name to the waiting list to be notified if additional kits become available.
    • Pick up: March 25 through April 7, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., One Market (George Street and Dalhousie Street entrance).

    Waterloo Campus

All care kits for the Waterloo campus are now reserved.

    • Online waiting list: Add your name to the waiting list to be notified if additional kits become available.
    • Pick up: March 25 through April 9, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., The Turret.
    • Extended pick up: March 30 and April 7, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

    Mail-out Request

A limited number of kits have been set aside for international students and those living at a distance from Laurier’s Brantford and Waterloo campuses. Students can request to receive a student care kit by mail, which will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

    Pick-up Safety Requirements

In order to pick up a student care kit, students must complete the following:

    • COVID-19 Self-Assessment questionnaire on the SafeHawk app.
    • Follow on-campus safety protocols, which include wearing a mask and physically distancing from others. Extra masks will be available and hand sanitizer will be provided.

Pick-up stations will be cleaned and sanitized during each time slot. For more information about the student care kits, email deanofstudentswl@wlu.ca at the Waterloo campus or deanofstudentsbr@wlu.ca at the Brantford campus.
