The City of Brantford is undertaking a major public works project in the downtown district that will renew buried infrastructure and transform the streetscape. Anticipated to take five years to complete, the project breaks ground in October 2025. The Downtown Brantford Revitalization Project will involve significant underground utility work that will impact roads and sidewalks in and around Laurier’s Brantford campus.
In addition to enhancing sewers and watermains, widening sidewalks and adding bike lanes, the project includes plans for more public art, street furniture and the planting of a significant number of trees to create an urban canopy. The planned upgrades to the underground infrastructure and surface streetscape will contribute to an urban-integrated campus district that is more attractive, vibrant and welcoming for all.

Construction in the campus district on Colborne and Dalhousie streets is not planned to start until 2026 at the earliest. Throughout construction, Laurier’s Brantford campus will continue normal operations. Laurier faculty and staff are coordinating with city staff to minimize disturbances due to construction noise and vibration during critical periods in the academic calendar. Disruptions to utilities affecting campus buildings will be communicated by Facilities and Asset Management via email.
To prepare for long-term and short-term traffic disruptions, Brantford campus faculty, staff and students are encouraged to subscribe to the city’s Downtown Detours page. For updates on project timelines, subscribe to the Downtown Revitalization Project page. Questions about the project can be addressed to cobdowntown@brantford.ca.
