The Laurier Economics Department partnered with the Laurier Cricket Club @lauriercricketclub for our third annual Faculty/Staff/Students cricket game on a lovely afternoon on September 10. This growing tradition brings together students, faculty, and staff for an afternoon of friendly competition, community, and connection. From impressive plays on the pitch to relaxed conversations in the outfield, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
Rather than our previous approach of just giving everyone a chance to experience batting and bowling, the LCC had decided to run a game this year. Faculty team captains Ridwan Karim and Tripat Gill selected their squads and faced off at the toss, with Team Karim winning and heading out to field first. With a very limited overs game, plus modified boundaries and no-ball rules, with the pair of Ken Jackson and Dhruv Mahto at the bat when Team Karim overtook Team Gill to take the (entirely theoretical) trophy.
As always there were awards at the end. Most notably Prashant Sharma won the award for one-handed batting, Jamie once again distinguished himself with a brilliant one-handed catch, and a special triple crown award went to those who’ve joined us in each of the three years – Samarth Bansal (who also won the Black Eye award in our starting year), Uday Veer Singh, and Amanda Kristensen. (There are a few other Econ faculty who’ve been there every year – particular shoutout to our first year profs Ken Jackson and Tammy Schirle.)
Thanks very much to Rupesh Rangwani and all the cricket club members who showed up, some even with injuries from a rough game in the Waterloo Cup the previous weekend.
Thank you to all who came out and made it another memorable day, and best wishes to the LCC in their coming games at SOCA and Nationals.
