Equipment

The Digital Media and Journalism (DMJ) program has a range of equipment available for you to sign out, at no cost, to complete your assignments. This inventory includes:

  • still SLR cameras, and lens and flashes
  • HD video cameras
  • digital audio recorders
  • external hard drives
  • a variety of related equipment including: tripods, mounts, selfie sticks, lights and microphones

Students must provide their own memory card(s) and single-use batteries. The SLR cameras and recording devices support SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards. Cards rated UHS Speed class 3 or better are recommended for movie recording and playback. The recording devices require two AA alkaline batteries or NiMH rechargeable batteries. 

Equipment Loans

To borrow the equipment, please book fill out a DMJN Equipment Loan Request form.  Appointments are currently being offered Tuesdays and Thursdays between 11 am - 12 pm and 1 pm - 2 pm. 

Macbook Air Loan Process

The DMJ program has a small number of MacBook Air laptops for you to borrow for one term at a time. 

Applications can be submitted at any time and be considered on a rolling basis. The availability of our computers are subject to demand and adjudication. If no computers are available, you can reapply the following term.

Process and Criteria

  • You are not guaranteed the loan of a computer.
  • Applications are evaluated based on the information you provide in the DMJ MacBook Air Loan Request Form.
  • Adjudication on the merit of the application is at the discretion of the DMJ program coordinator.
  • You are required to use your own external memory devices or hard drives.

Loan Periods

  • Fall term (September to December)
  • Winter term (January to April)
  • Computers are not loaned between terms or during summer (May to August)
