CS student Shayan Dhillon won the Best Directed Research/Independent Study Poster Award at the 2026 FOSSA Undergraduate Research Conference! His project “QAOA-Based Quantum Feature Selection for Real-World Forestry Data” under the supervision of Prof. S. Ghose was recognized for its innovative application of quantum optimization to a real-world machine learning problem in forest growth management.
By demonstrating how quantum optimization can recover optimal feature subsets and rigorously analyzing its performance against classical methods, the work highlights both the promise and current limitations of quantum approaches. Congratulations, Shayan!
