MA641: Advanced Theory of Statistics (Fall 2018)

Calendar Description

This course presents a rigorous development of: point and interval estimation; sufficiency, efficiency, unbiasedness, and consistency. Topics include: maximum likelihood and Bayesian estimation; exchangeability; invariance; decision theory; large sample theory; optimality criteria and most powerful tests; likelihood ratio tests; and robustness.

Evaluation

A final mark out of 100 will be calculated as follows:

  • Assignments: 15%
  • Midterm Test 1 (Friday, Oct. 19, 2018, 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.): 20%
  • Midterm Test 2 (Friday, Nov. 23, 2018, 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.): 20%
  • Final Exam (3 hours, exact date, time and location to be announced): 45%

The final mark will be reported as a letter grade in accordance with the conversion table of the current graduate calendar.
