Parking Enforcement and Fines

Parking and Transportation Resources staff and Special Constable Service personnel are authorized to enforce the parking regulations.

Please note that offences will result in a ticket and/or tow. Any outstanding parking fines and expenses will be attached to student accounts and Enrolment Services will place HOLDS on accounts until they are paid in full.

Outstanding parking fines not resolved in a reasonable period of time may, at the discretion the university, be referred to a collection agency.

Chart of Violations

  • Double parked at the end of a row: $30.
  • No parking area: $30.
  • No parking from 11 p.m. - 7 a.m. $30.
  • No parking from 2 a.m. - 6 a.m. $30.
  • Parked at an expired/failed meter: $30.
  • No overnight parking: $30.
  • No valid permit displayed: $30.
  • No valid ticket displayed $30.
  • Parked in an unauthorized lot: $30.
  • Time limit expired $30.
  • Driving without due care and attention: $50.
  • Parked on roadway/fire route: $50.
  • Parked in a reserved lot: $50.
  • Parked in 24-hour reserved space: $75.
  • Displaying an old/stolen violation/envelope: $100.
  • Displaying counterfeit or altered permit (annual): $300.
  • Displaying counterfeit or altered day permit: $100.
  • Submitting false information on forms: $150.
  • Displaying a lost or stolen permit: $300.
  • Parked in an accessible parking space: $300.
  • Time limit expired - EV Charging Station: $30.
  • Multiple vehicles parked on campus at one time registered to 1 permit: $75 (for each vehicle).

Paying a Parking Violation

Online

Parking tickets may be paid online via Visa or Mastercard. Go to parking.wlu.ca to pay a ticket.

Note that a $2 processing fee per transaction will apply. Please allow 24-48 hours from the time your ticket was issued for it to be payable via online payment.

You will need either the parking violation number or the license plate number to access the online payment system. Should you require assistance in determining or locating your violation number or license plate, please contact Parking and Transportation Resources.

In Person   

Payments can be made in person at Parking and Transportation Resources by cheque, credit card, or debit. In person service is available at our office R103 Monday to Friday 9-11:30 and 1:30-4:00.

Ensure that your violation number is noted on the memo line of the cheque. Please record your student ID number (if applicable) and fill in the required information on the back of the parking violation.

Mail

Cheque or money order payments may be sent by mail. Please make cheque payable to Wilfrid Laurier University.

Ensure that your violation number is noted on the memo line of the cheque. Post-dated cheques are not accepted.

Municipal Parking Tickets

Tickets that are issued by the City of Waterloo should be paid using one of the municipality's payment options.

Appeals

You may appeal tickets at parking.wlu.ca. Both the parking violation number and the license plate number are required to access the online payment system. Should you require assistance, contact Parking and Transportation Resources.

Appeals for tickets issued by Laurier must be submitted within 14 days of receipt of the ticket. Appeals submitted after this 14-day period will not be accepted and payment will be required.

Tickets issued by the City of Waterloo must be addressed with that municipality. See the city's FAQ section for details.

Grounds for Appeal

Parking and Transportation Resources will not consider granting appeals based on the following grounds:

  • Ignorance of Laurier Parking rules and regulations.
  • Failure to observe signs posted throughout campus.
  • Unauthorized parking for only short periods of time.
  • Parking at a failed or expired meter.
  • Lack of convenient parking, running late.
  • Someone other than Parking and Transportation Resources office told you to park there.
  • Inclement weather.
  • Incorrect vehicle make, colour, body style, etc. Please note that the only piece of vehicle information that must be correct is the license plate.

The only grounds that will be considered are:

  • The ticket was issued incorrectly.
  • The ticket was issued contradictory to the rules and regulations.
  • The ticket was issued to an existing permit holder parked in the correct lot.

Decisions

Decisions surrounding parking violation appeals will be made at the discretion of the Supervisor/Coordinator of Parking and Transportation Resources and/or the Parking Appeals Committee. The appellant will be notified of their appeal decision via email. Please ensure you are providing a valid and correct email address as a decision will be sent to this address within one to three weeks of submitting your appeal. Decisions are final and binding.

Towed Vehicles

If you believe your vehicle may have been towed, please contact Special Constable Services (519.885.3333 or 519.884.0710 x3333) to verify. If they confirm your vehicle has been towed, you will need to go to the Special Constable Services office located at 232 King Street. The office is located on the North side of King Street across from the Athletic Complex. Towed vehicles can be retrieved daily from 8 am - 8 pm. Should the building door be locked please press the call button on the intercom system located at the front doors on King St. for assistance.

You will be required to pay the towing fee directly to the towing company when an employee arrives to meet you at the SCS office. Payment may be made in the form of cash, Visa or MasterCard. Once the tow truck driver arrives to meet you, he or she will then take you to the compound to retrieve your vehicle.

The driver will not drive you to a bank machine or anywhere else to obtain funds for payment. Note the towing fees do not include any outstanding fines owed on the vehicle that are payable to the university.

The costs for retrieving your vehicle are as follows. HST is not included.

  • Towing charges: $105.00
  • Additional fees(if applicable): $35.00 if Dollies are required
  • Drop fee: $75.00
  • Storage fee: $45/day: Effective after first 24 hour period.
  • After hours additional fee (11:00 p.m. to 8 a.m.): $50.00

All parking enforcement and customer service related to enforcement is provided by the City of Branford Parking Enforcement Office. The City of Brantford enforces all parking lots, including Laurier parking lots.

Parking regulations may be enforced by Laurier or by the City of Kitchener.

Laurier Parking Violations

Offences will result in a ticket and/or tow. Any outstanding parking fines and expenses will be attached to student accounts and Enrolment Services may refuse to release marks and/or transcripts until accounts are paid in full. Outstanding parking fines not resolved in a reasonable period of time may, at the discretion the university, be referred to a collection agency.
