Move-In Day

In order to facilitate a safe and smooth move-in process, residence move-in at the Waterloo campus will take place over three days between September 4 and 6, 2021. Your move-in date will depend on which building and community you have been assigned.

Residence move-in at the Brantford campus will take place on Monday, September 6, 2021.

The university has put a number of measures in place to ensure the health and safety of our students, staff and faculty while adhering to provincial and public health guidelines. Accordingly, each residence student will be permitted to have TWO people enter their residence building to assist with the move-in process. We are asking students and their helpers to aim to complete the move-in process within two hours after receiving their keys. This policy has been decided on and approved by the Department of Residence and the campus-wide pandemic re-opening committee. The decision to allow two helpers supports our goal of limiting the number of outside visitors to campus, as well as increased traffic in our buildings. Normally we encourage families and supporters to be part of their student’s move-in process. Unfortunately, given the COVID-19 pandemic, we have had to make some tough decisions to ensure the health and safety of our students, staff and Laurier community.

All residence keys will be distributed through a drive-through process at designated locations. In order to keep our Laurier community safe, everyone travelling with you must complete the Ontario Self-Assessment Survey with a result that does not require them to self-isolate, prior to arrival. When you arrive at your key pickup location, a move-in volunteer will confirm with everyone in your car that the Assessment has been completed. If the Assessment indicates that you are required to self isolate, you will not be permitted to move into residence for 14 days. Students moving into residence and their helpers are required to wear a non-medical mask or face covering during move-in.

Once in an unloading spot, the student may exit the vehicle to collect their keys. You will be required to show your OneCard or one piece of Government photo ID. One move-in helper (not the driver) may accompany the student while they collect their keys. While the key pick-up and unloading process is taking place, the driver MUST remain in their vehicle. After all belongings have been unloaded, the driver will follow the map provided to park their car, and can then join the student in their residence to unpack.
In order to limit contact and control the amount of garbage/recycling in the building, we also ask that any moving supplies (boxes, bags, etc.) you bring with you are taken by your helper at the end of your move-in window.

Please ensure that you have logged into the online residence application system and completed the Medical and Emergency Information Form and Residence Vaccine Attestation Form by Friday August 20, 2021. These forms must be completed prior to moving into residence.
