Living Green: Sustainability at Laurier

From implementing green initiatives across our campuses, to providing opportunities for students to get involved, to innovation research and learning, the Sustainability Office is dedicated to creating and fostering a thriving sustainable community.

Created for students, by students, following a 2009 referendum, Laurier recognizes the need for environmental and socially sustainable options and alternatives to be included in all facets of university life.

The work of the Sustainability Office is guided by the 2023 to 2028 Sustainability Action Plan, which outlines 12 strategic goals designed to create a sustainably-minded campus community.

Creating a Healthy, Sustainable Campus Environment

The Sustainability Office offers a variety of programs, services and implementations that allow students to live sustainably from the day you start at Laurier to the day you move out and everything in between. By incorporating sustainability into daily life, we encourage our students to become active participants in creating a greener and more inclusive campus.

Our campus programs range from creating a more natural and biodiverse landscape, reducing our waste through circularity, increasing alternative transportation options, cultivating sustainable food systems, and conservation of energy and water.

Creating Sustainably-Minded Innovators

To create a culture of sustainability on campus, it is imperative to include students in the process, equip them with the knowledge and tools to do so, and create opportunities for students to bring their ideas to life. Integrating academics, engagement, and operations allows students to become part of the solution to the critical environmental issues of our day.

Laurier strives to offer a variety of avenues for you to get involved in sustainability on campus, whether it’s through in-class learning, connecting you with world-class researchers and community partners, collaborating with like-minded students, or providing financial and logistical support.
