The Office of Human Rights and Conflict Management offers this series of nine virtual workshops that focus on building our knowledge and skills to respond to disclosures and build solidarity for survivors.
Anyone is welcome to attend any workshop, but students who attend six of the nine workshops will receive a Sexual Violence Response Certificate through their Laurier Experience Record.

Has someone told you that they have been accused of sexual violence? Do you know someone who has caused harm? How do we make space to hold people accountable for their actions and acknowledge their common humanity?
In this workshop, we will use a case scenario to learn about survivor support, recognizing your feelings, how to approach the situation, and what the next steps look like.

Which bodies society deems as desirable and worthy can impact our idea of self, but also has a deep connection to gender based violence and how the kaleidoscope of different bodies may experience it under the gaze of society.
In this workshop, we will explore the subjects of bodies, power, desirability, the idea of the 'perfect survivor' and how they collide.

When someone has been impacted by gendered and sexual violence, receiving caring responses from the people around them is crucial to the healing process and can help prevent or lessen trauma. Will you be ready to respond when someone in your life tells you it happened to them? Learn about ways you can respond sensitively and be prepared with tools and resources when you receive a disclosure.

Forms of homophobia, transphobia, and cissexism are often intrinsically connected to gendered and sexual violence, yet 2S + LGBTQIA+ voices are often silenced in these conversations.
This workshop will help folks learn to effectively hold space for people who have experienced marginalization due to their sexual or gender identity.

In a culture where consent often isn’t at the forefront, many of us encounter harms relating to or impacting gendered and sexual violence often. This workshop will explore the ways that encounters with harm can show up, and how bystanders can respond to them.

Saying no to someone else is saying yes to ourselves. Boundaries show up in our lives every day – at school, at home, and in our relationships. Join us to explore what your boundaries are, how they can shift with different circumstances and how to assert them with others.

We always get told that you cannot give consent if you are intoxicated. That is a fact. And, the reality is that many folks are partying and are engaging in sexual intimacy with others. If we are going to use substances and fool around with folks we need to make sure we have the skills to decrease potential harm. Join us to explore safer strategies for prioritizing consent and sexual communication when using drugs and alcohol.
