Ride the Wave: Workshops for Wellness and Well-Being

The summer 2017 series runs Tuesdays at 2:30 from May 9 to August 8 in the Student Health and Development Centre

Schedule of Workshops

May 9: Before You Get in the Water (grounding and mindfulness)

Learn strategies to increase your self-awareness and focus on the present moment. This workshop teaches skills that are great for daily practice and that will help you cope when you’re feeling stressed.

May 16: Ride the Wave (meditation)

Mindfulness can help reduce rumination and over-thinking to reduce stress and anxiety. In this workshop, you will learn about mindfulness and participate in an introductory meditation exercise.

May 23: Moving Beyond Tidal Waves (distress tolerance)

Sometimes the waves are huge or just won’t stop crashing. This workshop offers simple but effective strategies to help you manage and get through difficult times.

May 30: Waves Ebb and Flow (emotional regulation)

Join us to talk about strategies to increase resilience, awareness, and emotional control.

June 6: Enjoy the Water (gratitude)

Gratitude and creative activities help you recharge during busy times. Take some time for yourself, and join us for a creative activity that is focused on gratitude.

June 15 at 2:00: Ready, Set, Compete (exam and presentation anxiety) NOTE: THIS WORKSHOP HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FROM JUNE 13.

Every surfer needs to practice before they compete. Learn ways to handle performance anxiety, improve your mental game, and find inner calm during midterms, exams, and presentations.

July 25: Ripple Effects (eating and sleeping for wellness and resilience)

Learn about the ways that poor sleeping and eating habits can impact your sense of well-being and your ability to cope throughout the day. Sleep and food effect your mood!

August 1: Moving Beyond Tidal Waves (distress tolerance)

August 8: Ready, Set, Compete (exam and presentation anxiety)
