Workshops and Programming
We encourage you to take a proactive, preventative approach to your wellness and learn tips and techniques to help you stay physically and mentally well. We have both in-person workshops and online workshops for you to enjoy. All programming is free for Laurier students.
Four of our workshops are required to earn the Wellness Education Certificate and they each run twice per term on Zoom: Taking Charge of Your Wellness, Getting More Sleep, Eating for Wellbeing, and Finding Your Bliss. Complete the Wellness Education Certificate by attending any one of our mental health workshops, running on Zoom or in-person.

Learn to Bake Your Own Bread
Did you know you bake your own delicious bread at home, with only five simple ingredients, for less than a dollar a loaf? Join the Peer Wellness Educators to learn our easiest recipe for homemade bread. We'll supply all ingredients and you'll take home a loaf of bread dough ready to pop in your fridge at home and bake the next day! This event is first come, first serve, to the first 10 participants.

The Art of Positive Thinking

What we tell ourselves has a powerful affect on our experience! You can reduce stress in your life by replacing negative self-talk with an intentional practice that fosters a positive outlook. Join Laurier student Makilda Addico as she shares her personal experiences with mantra meditations and creative visualization. She will guide us through some simple exercises to help you set your intentions, find inspiration, and get exciting about the future! Tea and snacks will be provided.
Journaling for Your Mental Health

Mario Kart DUI: a Drinking and Driving Education Event
Mar. 13, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Concourse
Get ready to rev your engines and buckle up for a unique and eye-opening event! Join us for an exciting drinking and driving education experience that combines fun, education, and awareness. In this event, you'll step into the world of Mario Kart, but with a crucial twist. Test your knowledge on drinking and driving laws in Ontario and prepare to take on the track with impairment goggles on. Throughout the event, you’ll have the opportunity to:
- Engage in Mario Kart races with impaired driving simulation to experience the effects of alcohol on driving abilities
- Test you reflexes and decision-making skills in various driving scenarios using impairment simulation goggles
- Take part in interactive discussions led by SWC Counsellors and Nurses providing valuable information safer substance use and the risks and consequences of drinking and driving.

Power of Connections
Jan. 24, 3 to 4 p.m.
This workshop addresses the importance of building systems of support, especially when transitioning to university life. It will also discuss how to identify and refer a friend in distress. This workshops is led by Shevaungh, a counsellor in the Student Wellness Centre, and it counts as an elective toward the Wellness Education Certificate.
Interrupting the Cycle of Perfectionism

Learn about factors that support and maintain perfectionism. This workshop will explore beliefs around perfectionism that impact our thoughts and behaviours and what happens when we don’t meet our own standards.This workshop is one of four workshops in our Overcoming Perfectionism series. Getting More Sleep

Sleep is often one of the first things to go when we are busy. In this session, we will go through ways to improve your sleeping habits and learn how a sleep routine can positively impact your mental health and overall well-being. This workshop is led by Claire, Wellness Education Coordinator, and is one of the core workshops in the Wellness Education Certificate.
Coping with Difficulty
Jan. 31, 3 to 4 p.m.
What do we do when it seems like everything is going wrong and we feel overwhelmed? This workshop will help you learn how to notice when things are sliding, and teach you strategies to manage those strong emotions. This workshop is run by Victoria, a counsellor in the Student Wellness Centre, and counts as an elective in the Wellness Education Certificate.
Eating for Wellbeing
Feb. 1, 7 to 8 p.m.
Food, mood, and learning are all closely linked, but when you're short on time and money it can be difficult to meal plan and prep for success. This workshop will provide you with practical strategies you can start using immediately to overcome common barriers to nutrition as a student so you can keep your body fueled and brain sharp! This workshop is led by Claire, the Wellness Education Coordinator, and Heather, a Registered Dietitian. This is one of the core workshops in the Wellness Education Certificate.
Challenging Perfectionistic Thinking
Learn strategies for changing perfectionist behaviours and thinking patterns. Together we will explore skills for coping with the consequences of perfectionism and how self-compassion can act as an anecdote to perfectionism. This workshop is one of four workshops in our Overcoming Perfectionism series. You do not have to attend all four sessions, but it is highly recommended. This workshop counts as an elective in the Wellness Education Certificate.
Changing Perfectionistic Thinking
Learn strategies for challenging your perfectionist mindset and explore re-evaluating the importance of achieving. Together we will explore how to change our self-evaluations and create new ways of thinking that allow for more flexibility. This workshop is one of four workshops in our Overcoming Perfectionism series. You do not have to attend all four sessions, but it is highly recommended. This workshop counts as an elective in the Wellness Education Certificate.
Out of the Box: Strategies for Diverse Minds
Feb. 14, 3 to 4 pm.
If you consider yourself neurodiverse, you may experience challenges with these four issues: (1) getting organized, (2) procrastination, (3) task initiation or management and (4) emotion regulation. In this workshops, MSW intern Taylor will explore how you can go from struggling to thriving by gently observing problems and starting to shift related patterns and habits. In an atmosphere that fosters self-compassion, we will start to build the skill of identifying problems and tasks that feel daunting and then learn how to break these into smaller "bite-sized" and easier-to-manage tasks. This workshops counts as an elective toward the Wellness Education Certificate.
Self-Compassion
Feb. 28, 3 to 4 pm.
Do you find it difficult to turn off the critical voice inside your head? Drop in to learn how to practice self-compassion to improve your mood, increase your resiliency and motivation, and feel more comfortable with yourself overall. This workshops is run by Sam, a counsellor from the Student Wellness Centre and counts as an elective toward the Wellness Education Certificate.

Building Resilience

Anxiety and Depression 101
Mar. 6, 3 to 4 p.m.
Learn what works, and what doesn't, in terms of behaviours that affect anxiety and depression. We will discuss the ways our behaviours impact mood and learn strategies to interrupt the cycles of anxiety or depression. This workshop is run by Valita, a counsellor from the Student Wellness Centre, and it counts as an elective in the Wellness Education Certificate.
Relationship Red and Green Flags

Learn about the different factors affecting relationships, relationship red and green flags, and characteristics of healthy and unhealthy relationships. Exam and Performance Anxiety
Mar. 27, 3 to 4 p.m. | Register in advance
Learn ways to handle performance anxiety, improve your mental game, and find inner calm during midterms and exams. This workshop will also address the additional stresses caused by online exams. This workshops is run by a clinical counsellor from the Student Wellness Centre and counts as an elective toward the Wellness Education Certificate.
