Career Discovery Program for Black and Racialized Students
Program Overview
The Laurier Career Discovery Program is a four-year program for Black and racialized undergraduate students who want to explore career options, strengthen professional skills, and gain meaningful experience. Through workshops, career consultations and hands-on learning, this program offers a supportive space to grow your confidence, build community and lay the foundation for long-term career success. The program begins in your first year and supports you throughout your time at Laurier.
Program Highlights
- Participate in ~25 hours of career-focused activities including group sessions focused on self-awareness, interests, competencies and professionalism plus practical advice for resumés, interviews and more.
- Receive personalized guidance from career consultants.
- Gain experience with a non-profit organization.
- Earn a $1,000 stipend after completing second-year program requirements.
- Get support securing paid summer employment between third and fourth year.
- Support for job search or graduate/professional education.
- Launches in Winter 2026 with a 35-student cohort.

Program Outline
First year
- Attend program orientation and workshops, and meet with a career consultant.
Second year
- Attend career workshops and meet with a career consultant.
- Complete a 20-hour non-profit experiential learning opportunity.
- Receive $1000 stipend upon completion of Career Discovery Program year two requirements.
Third year
- Conduct informational interviews in your chosen field(s).
- Participate in mock interviews.
- Attend workshops and meet with a career consultant.
- Receive support to secure paid summer employment between 3rd and 4th year.
Fourth year
- Attend workshops and meet with a career consultant.
- Complete a final reflection.
Eligibility
- First-year full-time undergraduate student at Laurier (any campus).
- Self-identify as Black or racialized.
- Demonstrate interest in your career development and commitment to completing the full program.
- Be available to attend and actively engage in all the components of the program.
- Students who are planning to apply to co-op are welcome to participate in this program.

Applications are open now until December 5, 2025. Complete the online application which includes questions about why you are interested and your resumé. Applications will be selected based on the following criteria: clarity and strength of the statement of interest, alignment with the goals and values of the program, demonstrated commitment to completing the program, and quality and relevance of the submitted resumé.
