Throughout the academic year, it's always a great idea to plan ahead and stay on top of important dates and deadlines.

Take note of important dates such as reading week, exam periods, and university closures due to statutory holidays as well as administrative deadlines such as course drop dates and tuition due dates.

Fall 2021

Orientation

12-Week Fall Courses: Registration and Tuition

September

  • Sept. 1: Co-op work term begins. Check out the FAQ for Fall 2021 co-op students.
  • Sept. 9: Fall term and full-year classes begin. Check out the 5 keys to success in virtual courses.
  • Sept. 9: Tuition fees due. Learn more about tuition and fees for 2021/22.
  • Sept. 9-15: Drop/withdraw from courses with no tuition charge.
  • Sept. 13: Last day for second-year students to apply to co-op options in Arts, Science and the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics.
  • Sept. 16–22: Drop/withdraw from courses at 10% tuition penalty (assessed at course rate).
  • Sept. 22: Last day to add 12-week and full-year courses (including online learning).

November

  • Nov. 10: Last day to drop/withdraw from courses without failure and for possible tuition adjustment (assessed at course rate).

Six-Week Fall Courses: Registration and Tuition

  • Oct. 6: Last day to drop first six-week courses without failure and for possible tuition adjustment.
  • Oct. 7: From this date until the end of first six-week classes, if you drop first six-week courses you will receive academic penalty (failure) and are responsible for 100% tuition.

February

  • Feb. 21: Family Day; no classes.
  • Feb. 22–25: Winter Reading Week, no classes.

March

  • March 7: Last day to drop course(s) or withdraw from full-year or 12-week winter course(s) without failure and for possible tuition adjustment (assessed at course rate).

April

  • April 1: Last day to submit Application to Graduate form (penalty fee applies) for spring convocation. No forms will be accepted after this date.
  • April 4: Winter classes end.
  • April 5–6: Study days.
  • April 7–25: Final examination period. Students are advised not to make travel commitments during this time period.
  • April 15: Good Friday; no examinations Easter weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
  • April 25: Winter term ends.
  • April 29: Co-op work term ends.

May

  • May 24 –28: Winter term deferred examination period. An appeal for a deferred examination must be submitted to the academic unit in which the course is offered. The deferred examination dates are confirmed, if approved, in writing from the petitions committee.

Six-Week Courses

January

  • Jan. 4: First six-week winter classes begin.
  • Jan. 4: Tuition fees due for 1st and 2nd six-week courses for Winter.
  • Jan. 4-6: If you drop/withdraw from first six-week courses during this time period, no tuition charged.
  • Jan. 7–10: If you drop/withdraw from first six-week courses during this time period, you are responsible for 10% tuition (assessed at course rate).
  • Jan. 10: Last day to add first 6-week courses.
  • Jan. 11–31: If you drop/withdraw from first six-week courses during this time, you are responsible for 55% tuition (assessed at the course rate).

August

  • Aug. 1: Application to Graduate form (without late fee) is due for fall convocation.

  • Sept. 16–22: Drop/withdraw from courses at 10% tuition penalty (assessed at course rate).
  • Sept. 22: Last day for late registration.
  • Sept. 23–Nov. 10: Drop/withdraw from courses at 55% tuition penalty (assessed at course rate).
  • Sept. 30: Final day for submitting final (post-defence) copies of dissertation/thesis/major research paper (as applicable) to Scholars Commons, and the receipt in the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Office of signed program/defence documentation for possible full refund of fall term fees and to be eligible to graduate at fall convocation.
