    From Hawk to Hire Challenge

    Get ready, get set, get hired!

    Are you ready to go From Hawk to Hire? Join our job search challenge!

    The Career Centre team has identified five challenges designed to help you boost your job search skills and get closer to landing the job you want. We challenge you to see how many you can complete from February 23 until March 27. For each challenge completed, you'll earn an entry for various prize draws, including cash on your OneCard, interview padfolios, and Career Centre swag.

    Get Started

    • Register to participate by picking up your Challenge Passport at the Career Centre. 
    • Participate in Weekly Challenges and verify your progress at Check-in Time. 
    • Complete tasks to earn entries for various prizes.  

    Challenge #1: Fuel and Focus | Starts February 23

    Pick up the Challenge Passport at the Waterloo or Brantford Career Centre during office hours and receive a free coffee/tea voucher for Veritas Café or the Belmont Restaurant. 

    On your passport, identify your job search focus for the challenge:

    • Are you seeking a part-time, summer or full-time job?
    • What is the type/function of the role?
    • What is your ideal work location?
    • What are the top three skills needed?

    Re-share our From Hawk to Hire Instagram post and tag two friends for a chance to win $50 on your OneCard!

    Challenge #2: Resumé Refresh | Starts March 2

    Keeping your resumé updated helps you stay ready for new opportunities. 

    Pick one section of your resumé to update - refresh the appearance, reorganize the content, add a recent experience, or improve bullet points.

    Challenge #3: Level up LinkedIn | Starts March 9

    Level up your LinkedIn profile to reflect the professional you are today!

    Add/update your headline, skills, about or projects section.

    Challenge #4: Search Smart | Starts March 16

    Strengthen your job search with a focused list of platforms and clear search terms. 

    Identify a list of five job boards or company/organization careers pages and 3 keywords you will use when searching.

    Challenge #5: Spark Connections | Starts March 23

    Building meaningful connections is a key step to advance your career. 

    Draft a short outreach message to an alum or professional in your field of interest or attend a networking event.

    Challenge Details

    • The Challenge is open to current Laurier students attending in person in Waterloo or Brantford.
    • Students can start the challenges at any point during the campaign up until March 23, and complete them in any order after each challenge's start date. 
    • Weekly challenge tasks must be verified in person by Career Centre staff during a Check-in Time. Once verified, you will receive a passport stamp and your entry will be tracked electronically.
    • For each task completed, participants receive 1 entry for the final prize draw. Submit your fully stamped passport at the end of the campaign to receive an additional entry. 

    Challenge Check-in Times | CC-101, Waterloo or OM-206-40, Brantford 

    • Every Tuesday (March 3, 10, 17, 24) from 2 - 4 p.m.
    • Friday, March 27, from 2 - 4 p.m.

    Prize Draws 

    Reshare our initial Instagram post and tag two friends for a chance to win $50 on your OneCard, a padfolio and an interview kit. The winner will be contacted March 2. 

    Pick up your Challenge Passport at the Career Centre to receive a free coffee/tea voucher (while supplies last) redeemable at Veritas Café or the Belmont Restaurant. 

    Attend any check-in date for challenge validation and a chance to win a weekly prize of $10 on your OneCard or a Career Centre interview kit. 

    Final Prize Draw - at the end of the Challenge, four participants will be selected from all entries on March 31. The winners will receive $25 on their OneCard, a padfolio and Career Centre swag bag.
