Career consulting appointments are collaborative sessions designed to help you explore career possibilities. Our career consultants provide guidance and support on topics such as: 

• Exploring your interests, values, skills and personality.
• Selecting or changing a career direction.
• Choosing a major or area of study aligned with your goals.
• Gaining meaningful volunteer or work experience.
• Identifying jobs and employers of potential interest to you.

What to Expect 

Career development is an ongoing process that may involve several meetings over time. During your appointments, you and the career consultant will collaborate to explore your goals and identify action items. You'll then work on these steps between meetings to continue your progress. Career assessments may be introduced as an option. 

Your Commitment

If you engage in career consulting, it will require your commitment to: 

• Attend an initial appointment (45 minutes).
• Follow through on identified action items and next steps in your research.
• Complete optional career assessments (approximately 30 minutes).
• Attend a follow-up session if you get stuck in your career research and decision-making, or need to debrief an assessment (45 minutes). 

In Job Search appointments, we can discuss:

• Job search and networking for summer, part-time or full-time positions.
• How to access the hidden job market and leverage LinkedIn.
• Job and salary negotiation.

In Interview Coaching appointments, we can discuss:

• How to highlight your strongest qualifications
• How to craft effective responses to common interview questions
• Managing nerves so you can perform your best

In a Mock Interview appointment, you will:

• Participate in a simulated interview with a career consultant 
• Practice your answers to common interview questions
• Receive feedback and tips for improving at the end of the appointment

To practice for an upcoming job interview, include the job description of the position you are interviewing for in your appointment request. The consultant can then ask targeted questions based on the job posting. 

In Further Education appointments, we can discuss:

• Information on professional schools including faculties of education, medical school, law school and others.
• Graduate school applications, interviews and tests.
• How to complete statements of interest required for graduate schools.
• Post-degree programs at college.
