    Faculty of Music Co-Curricular Record Certificates

    The Faculty of Music offers three co-curricular record (CCR) certificates that run in collaboration with the Careers Centre offices.

    These certificates are included as part of a student’s Laurier Experience Record (LER). The LER is a comprehensive record of your involvement in curricular and co-curricular experiential learning at Laurier.

    These certificates are based on four overarching competencies: Performance, Pedagogy, Scholarship, and Entrepreneurship. These certificates must be completed in order.

    "TRY" - MUSICIANS’ PROFESSIONAL SKILLS: LEVEL I  

    Complete the following:
    • Workshop: Fostering Inclusive Learning: Microaggressions in the Classroom for students
    • Workshop: Consent-Based Practice for students
    • Various: Attend four studio classes (outside your instrument of study)*^
    • Various: Attend one university-sponsored research presentation
    • Workshop: Attend a guest workshop on a career in music
    *Or, 3 studio classes and 1 X-week lesson
    ^students are instructed to seek the permission of the studio class instructor to attend prior to the class.

    "EXPLORE" - MUSICIANS’ PROFESSIONAL SKILLS: LEVEL II 

    Complete the following within 12-months:
    • Navigator: Setting Learning Objectives to start the certificate
    • MyLearningSpace: AODA Integrated Accessibility Training
    • Workshop: Exploration of skills, workplace professionalism and workplace expectations for music students
    • MyLearningSpace: Unpaid Work Placement Health and Safety Orientation
    • Student Directed: 15-hours practical experience (volunteer or paid) in student-determined area of interest (e.g., Peer Tutoring Program, Section Leaders, Audition Assistances, etc.)

    "DIVE IN" - MUSICIANS’ PROFESSIONAL SKILLS: LEVEL III

    Complete the following within 12-months:
    • Navigator: Setting Learning Objectives to start the certificate
    • Student Directed: 8-hours of Mentorship (received; student identified; can be inside or outside of the university community related to the professional practice in music)
    • Student Directed: 4-hours of Mentorship with high school, 1st year, or 2nd year music student on academic and/or professional success in music (student identified)
    • Student Directed: 10-hours of practical experience (paid or not) in student-determined area of interest in the field of music and/or music industry
