Are you interested in learning how to build safer spaces for individuals impacted by gendered and sexual violence?
The Office of Human Rights and Conflict Management offers a series of ten virtual workshops designed to build knowledge and skills for responding to disclosures and fostering solidarity with survivors.
All workshops are open to anyone interested in learning more. Students who attend five of the ten workshops will receive a Sexual Violence Response Certificate - Level 1, while those who attend eight of the ten workshops will receive a Sexual Violence Response Certificate - Level 2, tracked through the Laurier Experience Record.

Societal expectations of masculinity and sexuality often create barriers for masculine-identifying survivors seeking support and care. In this workshop, we will examine how toxic masculinity—intersecting with whiteness, colonialism, and patriarchy—shapes the experiences of male-identified survivors. Join us to explore how we can build safer, more inclusive spaces that support the healing of masculine survivors and promote healthier expressions of masculinity

Survivors who have experienced or been connected to colonial violence are deserving of support and care that acknowledges the ways in which gendered violence and colonial violence intersect. This workshop explores the experiences of survivors who have felt the impacts of colonialism, and how folks can best support them.

Society’s ideas about which bodies are desirable and worthy can impact our sense of self worth. This is deeply connected to how the kaleidoscope of different bodies may experience gender-based violence under the gaze of society. In this workshop, we will examine the subjects of bodies, power, desirability, and the idea of the ‘perfect survivor’ and how they collide.

Moving beyond the traditional fight, flight, freeze and fawn responses, this workshop will help you learn the wide range of ways trauma is stored and expressed in the body. Trauma often lasts long after the initial incident, living within our bodies as stored survival responses which can manifest into autoimmune diseases, eating disorders, chronic pain, and other coping patterns.
