First-Year Program Requirements: Faculty of Social Work
The following information is part of Step 1: Program Requirements of the Course Registration Guide for first-year Faculty of Social Work students. To view the remaining steps, consult the Course Registration Guide.

Notes
You must take the on-campus section (BR) of SK111 and SK121.
If you would like to complete a minor in Mental Health and Well-Being, take PS101 and PS102 as electives this year. The minor also requires SK121 toward the requirements.
Interested in a minor in Youth and Child Studies, Human Rights, Health Studies or Social and Environmental Justice? Consider choosing YC100, HR100, HS102, HS200 or SOJE100 if you are hoping to complete a minor in one of these areas (these areas will accept a future SK course toward the minor).
Interested in the Teaching Option? Review the recommended year 1 courses for the option.
If you’d like to complete a certificate in Non-Profit Career Foundations, take OL140 as an elective this year. The certificate will include 2 future mandatory SK courses

- 1 senior ID course of your choice (200 or 300 level) (or 0.5 credit elective if you took ID309 in fall)
- 1 elective (0.5 credit)

The above registration plan is based on the 10.0 transfer credits you have received as part of the 2+2 agreement.SSW students must register in the noted course sections for their required SK courses (BR1 etc.). If you receive a ‘restricted cohort’ error when trying to register, please ensure you are choosing the correct section for your cohort.
Do not register in HR100 or HR260 as you have received direct transfer credit for these courses.
Senior level ID courses offered in the winter include: ID201 (VA), ID227, ID302, ID309, ID375, or ID386 (VS). You can choose to take ID309 in the fall and move your fall elective to the winter term.
Consider a minor in Youth and Children’s Studies, Human Rights, Indigenous Studies or Social and Environmental Justice, as they can be completed without any extra credits in your degree. Connect with Academic Advising if you have interest in pursuing any of these minors.

Senior level ID courses offered in the winter include: ID201 (VA), ID227, ID302, ID309, ID375, or ID386 (VS).
Course Load
To earn an Honours Degree, you will need to complete 20.0 credits:
- 0.5 credit: Normally conducted over one term
- 1.0 credit: Normally conducted over two terms
If you are studying part-time, you can take up to 1.5 credits per term. Full-time status is given to students who take 2.0 or 2.5 credits per term.
If you select 2.5 credits in the fall term and 2.5 credits in the winter term, you can complete an Honours Degree in four years.
