Laurier students have access to the Rental Readiness Certificate and Off-Campus Housing workshops/events to build their off-campus living toolkit! These workshops/events are open to all Laurier students and can be beneficial to those looking for off-campus housing for the next academic year, currently residing in off-campus housing, or individuals currently living at home but seeking to develop life skills related to renting in Ontario to support them post-graduation or later in life.
Laurier's Off-Campus Housing Support Program has specific workshops to support our students during their entire off-campus housing consideration and search. Laurier students are encouraged to explore completing the Rental Readiness Certificate on their campus. The certificate program runs in a cohort model and consists of three one-hour workshops. Students can complete individual workshops based on needs/interest or attend all 3 sessions to obtain the Rental Readiness Certificate.
This session focuses on foundational steps to begin your house-hunting journey. It will focus on educating students about the house hunting process, and help students by providing budgetary considerations and resources, as well as tools to successfully find roommates and decide what they want vs. need in housing. It's a great place to start if you are not sure how to begin looking for off-campus housing.
Winter 2026 Cohort One:
Looking for an overview on how and where to look for off-campus housing? This session will cover all things you need to know about searching for potential units. Students attending this session can expect to learn common search engines, things to look for in housing advertisements to avoid scams and to ensure the unit is the right fit, key questions to ask potential landlords, and other helpful house-hunting considerations.
Winter 2026 Cohort One:
Never seen or signed an Ontario Standard Lease before? Join us while we walk through every section of an Ontario Standard Lease to ensure students know what to look out for and double-check before officially signing a contract for a rental unit. This session can even be helpful to students already living off-campus, as you may learn new information to help you with future rental agreements.
Winter 2026 Cohort One:
Rental Readiness Certificate/workshop registration is required in advance. If you attend all three sessions, you will earn a Rental Readiness Certificate that can be added to your Laurier Experience Record.
