There are many ways for you to get involved and enhance your residence experience at Laurier.
The Department of Residence will take a holistic approach to fostering inclusive communities by facilitating developmental experiences that foster a sense of belonging and self-authored leadership in first-year students. All developmental efforts will be grounded in residence's five departmental learning goals.
Develop a sense of belonging and contribute positively as a caring and accountable citizen of the community. Students will develop community with those different from the self in an equitable, diverse, inclusive, and accessible community.
Students will learn and develop the self-management skills necessary to live independently while striving for personal wellness. Students will explore strategies for wellness and resilience.
A space for students to explore their academic pursuits and passions, developing the skills necessary to thrive academically while exploring academic interests and co-curricular activities. Laying the academic foundation for student retention and persistence to graduation.
Clarify personal identity in relation to one’s values and what it means to act in congruence with them. Navigate the connections between understanding self, others and reflect on one’s impact on others. Create clarity of purpose while at Laurier and beyond.
By discovering and learning about indigeneity, students will engage in learning experiences that increase one’s positionality within colonialism. Students will learn about the process of reconciliation and how to incorporate Indigenous knowledge into their experience as a student at Laurier.
Affinity Groups are a place for students with specific identities to come together in community, share their experiences, and offer a safe space for students who have historically been left out of higher education to form meaningful relationships with one another. The purpose of all Residence Collectives is to provide safe and fun spaces for equity-denied groups to create community with each other.
We will be offering the following three affinity groups this upcoming year:
