Waterloo Study Spaces

Check out the study spaces on the Waterloo campus below. The Waterloo interactive map can help you find your way around campus to each of the buildings.

Take note of the amount of traffic (people moving through) and noise common for each to find the best fit. Some of the spaces require your OneCard to access.

Bricker Academic Building

  • Location: Second and third floor
  • Hours: 7 a.m. – 11 p.m.
  • Restrictions: None

These long hallways have small tables and seating options for approximately 30 people. The spaces tend to be quiet.

Fred Nichols Campus Centre

24-Hour Lounge

  • Location: Second floor
  • Hours: Always open
  • Restrictions: None

The 24-Hour Lounge is a large open area with group and individual seating options for approximately 120 people. The space tends to be loud. 

Concourse

  • Location: First floor
  • Hours: Always open
  • Restrictions: None; OneCard required to access from 11 p.m. – 7 a.m.

The Concourse is a large open area with various group and individual seating options, including regular and high tables. The space has seating options for approximately 150 people. It has high traffic throughout the day and tends to be loud.

Solarium

  • Location: First Floor
  • Hours: Always open
  • Restrictions: None; OneCard required to access from 11 p.m. – 7 a.m.

The Solarium offers seating options for approximately 40 people with plenty of natural light and a beautiful view of campus. The space tends to be quiet.

Lazaridis Hall

  • Location: All floors
  • Hours: 7 a.m. – midnight
  • Restrictions: None; OneCard required to access from 11 p.m. – midnight

Lazaridis Hall is an open space with lots of natural light, and a variety of seating options for approximately 200 people. It has high traffic throughout the day and tends to be loud.

Library

Inside

  • Location: All floors
  • Hours:
    • Weekdays 8:30 a.m. – 10 p.m.
    • Saturdays and Sundays 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Restrictions: None; seventh floor is a quiet study zone

The library has numerous areas such as computer labs, group study spaces, and lounge areas, with seating for more than 500 students. The space tends to be quiet.

Visit the Library website for changes to hours and extended hours during exams.

Reminder: Hot food should be eaten at the tables by the cafe. No food deliveries to the Library are allowed.

Outside

  • Location: Lower level
  • Hours: Always open
  • Restrictions: None

This is an open-air space with numerous small tables and seating for 20 people.

Music Building

Study Rooms

  • Location: Second floor
  • Hours: 7 a.m. – 11 p.m.
  • Restrictions: Reserved for students in the Faculty of Music; OneCard required to access from 6 a.m. – 7 a.m.

These cozy mid-size lounge spaces feature different seating options for approximately 30 people.

Practice Studios

  • Location: Second floor
  • Hours: 7 a.m. – 11 p.m.
  • Restrictions: Reserved for students in the Faculty of Music; OneCard required to access from 6 a.m. – 7 a.m.

These sound-proof rooms offer bench seating and tables. Music students must adhere to Music Building Policies and reserve rooms through Skedda.

Peters Building

  • Location: All floors
  • Hours: 7 a.m. – 11 p.m.
  • Restrictions: None

Spaces in the Peters Building vary from big and open, to small and intimate study rooms, with total seating options for approximately 75 people.

Schlegel Building

  • Location: Atrium, first floor
  • Hours: 7 a.m. – 11 p.m.
  • Restrictions: None

The Schlegel Building Atrium is an open area with lots of natural lighting surrounded by classrooms and has seating options for approximately 50 people. The space tends to be loud.

Science Building

  • Location: All floors
  • Hours: 7 a.m. – 11 p.m.
  • Restrictions: None

The Science Building is a large open space with plenty of tables and seating options for approximately 200 people. The space tends to be loud.
