Student Groups

Archaeology Society

The Wilfrid Laurier University Archaeology Society is a group of students who all share an interest in Archaeology. The society works to create a welcoming atmosphere within the Archaeology department at Laurier. The Archaeology society hosts academic and social events, including: parties, movie nights, study sessions, trips, guest lectures and more!

One of our major initiatives is to get students connected with professors for field school and excavation opportunities. We also provide opportunities and information regarding funding for participation in archaeological projects. Archaeology Society events are coordinated by the executive committee, which consists of eight students.

Schliemann Graduation Event

Since its founding in the early 2000s, the Schliemann Graduation has grown into one of the department’s favourite yearly events. The event is held every April as a celebration of the accomplishments of the year’s graduating class. This event has become extremely important to our students and faculty as a large majority of our students are not able to attend the school-wide convocation that takes place in the summer due to participation in various archaeological fieldwork projects. Schliemann Graduation is a chance for our students to close their chapter at Laurier in a meaningful way.

Laurier Ancient Music Society (LAMS)

The Laurier Ancient Music Society is a club where students can come together to explore their passion for ancient and early music. Throughout the year, we have regular meetings which consist of both presentations and workshops. Additionally, we hold semesterly concerts where we bring music from the past to life again! LAMS is open to all Laurier undergraduate students, regardless of program or musical ability. For more information, contact
