The Faculty of Music offers a number of positions for Faculty of Music students. Fill out an application form to be considered for a position. Students can apply for more than one position.
Applications will be reviewed beginning June 13 and will continue until positions are filled. Applications will remain open until all positions are filled. Only successful applicants will be contacted.
Please note that we anticipate that all work for the Fall term will be done remotely.
Peer tutoring in music theory and skills. Students approved by the Faculty of Music to be tutors will be given a brief training session to explain the boundaries between legitimate tutoring and academic misconduct, to reinforce the issue of confidentiality, and to cover the specific kinds of information and help they may provide to the students they tutor (e.g. assistance with the process for solving problems, not with the problems themselves).
Approved tutors will be asked to sign a confirmation that they understand the issues surrounding academic misconduct, that they plan to maintain confidentiality, and that they will adhere to the principles outlined in the academic calendar.
Skills Tutors and Musicianship Tutors (Years 1 and 2: MU136/137/236/237, MU145A/B): conduct group sessions with broad appeal to assist students in the various aspects of the skills curriculum. Piano facility is required to conduct dictation sessions. Please indicate your level of comfort for playing dictation passages from the piano in your cover letter. A very limited amount of one-on-one tutoring may be available.
Theory Tutors (Year 1: MU161/162): must be available during the first-year theory class times, which are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12:30–1:20 p.m. and 1:30–2:20 p.m.. In class tutors assist on flipped-classroom days as determined by the theory instructors. A very limited amount of one-on-one tutoring may be available. Some tutors may be asked to grade quizzes and exercises with minimal discretion.
Theory Tutors (Year 2: MU266/268): must be available during the second-year theory class times, which are Monday and Wednesday 1-2:20 p.m. and 2:30–4 p.m. In-class tutors assist on flipped-classroom days as determined by the theory instructors and assist with grading quizzes and exercises with minimal discretion. A very limited amount of one-on-one tutoring may be available. Keyboard skills are an asset. Please indicate your level of comfort for playing dictation passages from the piano in your cover letter.
Commercial Music Theory Tutors (Year 1: MU142): must be available during the first-year theory class times, which are Monday, Wednesday 8:30–9:50 a.m.. In class tutors assist on flipped-classroom days as determined by the theory instructor. A very limited amount of one-on-one tutoring may be available. Some tutors may be asked to grade quizzes and exercises with minimal discretion.
Markers (all courses above): Limited marking/grading assistance may be offered to approved Tutors. If you wish to be considered for this work, please let your supervising instructor know.
Third- or fourth-year Music students. Only those with a minimum of A- in the course in which they would like to tutor, or those with permission of the instructor, will be considered. Under exceptional circumstances, a second-year student may be considered for first-year classroom assistance.

Auditioning and grading compositions by approximately 15 students for approximately nine weeks of term.
Fourth-year Composition majors only. Minimum grade of A- in MU360.
$21.70/hour for fourth-year undergraduate.
Approximately 15 hours, fall and winter term.
Pianist/Accompanist to accompany the singing students in MU194: Class Voice.
Must be a 4th year piano student or Chamber Diploma Student. Under exceptional circumstances, a 2nd or 3rd year student may be considered. Strong sight reader with capabilities in multiple genres, with preference given to students who have completed the accompanying courses.
$21.70/hour for fourth-year undergraduate.
Maximum 1.5 hours per week available, per section. Section times are:
194a— Tuesdays/Thursdays, 1:00-2:20pm
194b— Tuesdays/Thursdays, 2:30-3:50pm
194c— Tuesdays/Thursdays, 7:00-8:20pm
Accompanists must be available during class times.
Invigilate quizzes, tests, exams in the Faculty of Music as needs arise.
2nd, 3rd or 4th year undergraduate music student of exceptional character and integrity.

As needed throughout the Fall and Winter terms to assist with proctoring needs in the Faculty.
