University Preparation Modules

As you get ready to begin your journey at Laurier, we’ve designed a series of online modules to help you start strong and feel confident before arriving on campus.

These modules cover essential topics including Academic Preparation, Preparing for University Calculus, and Academic Integrity at Laurier ensuring you're equipped with the tools and expectations of academic life. You'll also be introduced to Generative AI Literacy to help you navigate emerging technologies responsibly, and Consent is Golden 101, which supports a safe and respectful campus community.

Completing these modules will set the foundation for a successful and informed start to your university experience. 

MyLaurier Student Email and MyLearningSpace 

Important information will be sent to your MyLaurier student email including the Laurier 101 Newsletter with important dates, reminders, and event registration information.

Activate your MyLaurier student email and check it regularly to stay informed. Many of the following preparation resources and modules are found in MyLearningSpace (MyLS).

MyLearningSpace (MyLS) is Laurier's learning management system for virtual and classroom-based courses. MyLS allows you to access course content, lectures and resources from your instructors, take online quizzes and submit electronic assignments on all your devices. 

Some of these modules require self-enrolment on the MyLearningSpace homepage. Please follow the steps below to register for these modules. 

  1. Go to the MyLearningSpace and log in using your Laurier single sign-on credentials.
  2. Once logged in, find the "Self Registration" option on the top left of the page. 
  3. Browse through the available courses and select the one you want to register for.
  4. Click the "Register" or "Join Group" button, depending on the type of self-registration (course or group).
  5. Review your registration and ensure it's correct. You may also receive confirmation to your MyLaurier student email.

Academic Preparation Modules

Timeline: Complete within one month before starting classes

The Academic Preparation Modules include a collection of activities to help you get ready for your academic life at university and set yourself up for success in your first year. The modules are available 24/7, can be completed all at once or in multiple sessions, and usually take approximately 1 - 2 hours to finish completely. You will be enrolled in the Academic Prep Modules in MyLearningSpace on August 1!

Preparing for University Calculus

Timeline: Complete within two-three month before starting classes 

Need a Boost Before Starting Calculus? If your program includes calculus and you’re feeling a bit unsure, or just want a refresher, Laurier has your back! You can choose between two prep options before classes start: the Calculus Preparation Program and the TriAGe Preparation for University Calculus (a non-credit course). Both are great ways to brush up on key math skills, build your confidence, and set yourself up for success in university calculus. 

Academic Integrity at Laurier

Timeline: Complete within one months before starting classes 

Self-registration required. Module name: Online Academic Integrity Modules - Undergraduate 

Before you start your Laurier journey, make sure to complete the Academic Integrity at Laurier modules. This interactive experience will help you understand what academic integrity really means and why it matters. You’ll explore Laurier’s expectations, learn to recognize different types of academic misconduct, and gain insight into Indigenous perspectives on respect, reciprocity, and relationality. By completing this module, you’ll be better prepared to make ethical choices and succeed with confidence in your academic journey. This module usually take approximately 1 hour to finish completely. 

Generative AI Literacy

Timeline: Complete within one months before starting classes 

Self-registration required. Module name: Generative AI Literacy Modules

As a student, knowing what to do with gen AI chatbots like ChatGPT and CoPilot can be tricky. You may have concerns about academic misconduct, plagiarism, and questions about the ethical implications of using gen AI chatbots in your coursework. These are worthy concerns, and it is worth taking time to learn more about how gen AI tools work and appropriate ways to approach them in your coursework. This module usually take approximately 1.5 hours to finish completely.

Consent is Golden

Timeline: Complete within two-three months before starting classes 

Consent is Golden 101 is a mandatory online training for all incoming first year students. This course will provide greater understanding about consent, relationships, and gender-based and sexual violence. Students will learn about available supports and resources and how to foster a supportive community. Completion of this program is required before arriving on campus. You have been automatically enroled into this module and it should take approximately 45 minutes.
