Program Requirements

Credits

The Honours BSc Paramedicine requires the completion of 20 credits (40 courses).

Transfer Credits (10.0 Credits)

These credits are awarded for prior education/work experience. 

  • 6.0 junior miscellaneous credits (courses at the 100-199 level)
  • 3.0 senior level Paramedicine (PARA) credits (courses at the 200-499 level)
  • 1.0 senior miscellaneous elective credits (course chosen as part of a program but not a required course)

Academic Requirements (7.0 Credits)

Includes courses in psychology, paramedicine, health studies, academic writing and one sociology/health elective.

Key courses are: 

  • PS101, PS102 – Introduction to Psychology I and II (1.0 credit)
  • PARA200–401 – Various paramedicine-focused courses (4.0 credits)
  • HS201, HS220 – Canadian Health Care Systems and Epidemiology and Public Health (1.0 credit)
  • EN241 – Advanced Academic Writing (0.5 credit)
  • HS200 or SY215 – Health elective (0.5 credit)

Additional Program Electives (3.0 Credits)

Any additional senior courses (200-, 300- or 400-level).

Residence requirements: For honours degrees, all students, including those transferring from another university, must complete a minimum of 10.0 credits (or equivalent) at Laurier, including at least Honours Degree (single major): 5.0 senior credits in the honours program. 

Progression and Graduation for Paramedicine

In order for you to be permitted to progress through the program from one year to the next, you must have an overall GPA of 4.00.

To be eligible to graduate, you must have a minimum GPA of 7.00 in all Paramedicine (PARA) courses, and a minimum overall GPA of 5.00. Keep in mind that all courses must be completed at Laurier.

Course Offerings

The BSc in Paramedicine is a new program that will continue to develop and adapt on a term-by-term basis. Courses are subject to change based on program development.

Course Load

This program is part-time, which means that you can take one, two, or three courses per semester. There are three semesters in an academic year – fall (September to December), winter (January to April), spring (May to August).

Elective Courses

In addition to the required courses, an additional 3.0 senior credits are required.

The following elective virtual asynchronous courses may appeal to students in this program. Students will either have the necessary prerequisites based on the required course list (e.g. HS200), or the required senior student status.
