The Department of Geography and Environmental Studies invites applications for Instructional
Assistants (IAs) for the Fall 2025/Winter 2026 terms in GG102: Introduction to Human Geography.
Duties: Instructional Assistants are responsible for marking lab assignments as directed by the GG102
Lab Instruction Coordinator in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies. Instructional
Assistants are provided a marking guide with minimal discretionary grading. Other responsibilities may
include meetings with the Lab Instruction Coordinator and marking of midterm/final exams.
The usual time commitment is 10 hours per week. However, some weeks IAs may be required to work
more (or less) than 10 hours per week due to time-sensitive course requirements in marking lab
assignments, mid-term exams, or final exams.
Instructional Assistants are expected to be available for in-person meetings on campus and marking
when required.
Qualifications: Qualified applicants must be registered in a program within the Department of
Geography and Environmental Studies or a related discipline. We invite applications from 3rd and 4th year undergraduates in good academic standing. Only if there are no Laurier students who meet the qualifications of the position will a non-Laurier student be considered.
Compensation: $21.54/hr as per marking only rates.
Application Process: Applicants should submit a Letter of Interest which expresses the applicant's
suitability for the position, a current Resume, and an unofficial copy of their LORIS transcript. Please
include a schedule of availability for the Fall 2025 term. Applications should be sent by e-mail,
indicating the position being applied for in the subject line (GG102 IA Position)*.
*If you’ve applied to both IA positions (GG101 Physical Geography and GG102 Human Geography),
please mention this in your email and indicate your top choice. This won’t affect your eligibility for either role but will help the Lab Coordinators determine the best placement if successful.
Wilfrid Laurier University is committed to equity and values diversity. We welcome applications from
qualified individuals of all genders and sexual orientations, persons with disabilities, Indigenous persons, and persons of a visible minority.
