A Year of Progress and Momentum

Wilfrid Laurier University has officially launched its 2024-25 Annual Sustainability Report. This report offers a more comprehensive view of Laurier’s sustainability journey through operations, academics, and engagement. From everyday decisions to long-term strategic plans, this year’s report illustrates the successes, challenges, and future actions. The launch of the report not only celebrates the university’s sustainability achievements but also reinforces Laurier’s ongoing commitments outlined in the 2023–28 Sustainability Action Plan (“the Plan”).

A New Approach to Reporting Progress

This year’s report marks a shift in how progress will be reported. Each section of the report begins with a performance summary, which offers a clear snapshot of sustainability progress. Following the summaries, each sub-section includes real stories, case studies, and project updates happening on our campuses. The report covers three main areas:

    • Tracks progress on the 2023-28 Sustainability Action Plan
    • Highlights community-driven sustainability stories
    • Demonstrate contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs)

Whether it’s reducing greenhouse gas emissions, embedding sustainability into curriculum and research, or expanding community partnerships, the report celebrates a growing culture of sustainability that touches every corner of the university.

    Building on Momentum

The Plan is the central framework that allows the institution to demonstrate how it is planning, collaborating, and leading sustainability efforts across all campuses. The launch of this year’s report signifies a pivotal change in momentum as we lead into the latter half of the Plan, which concludes in 2028.

“The Annual Sustainability Report reflects Laurier's sustainability accomplishments and progress. Highlighting the collective efforts of the entire Laurier community showcases the overall impact we can have," said Eric Meliton, Manager, Sustainability Office. "We believe that collaboration drives real change and look forward to supporting the Laurier community to continue down this pathway."
