Note: The following information represents requirements for students who are starting at Laurier in the 2024/2025 academic calendar year

The first step to your preparation for course registration is to check your program requirements. 

On this page, you will find: 

First Year Program Requirements 

Each program at Laurier has a specific curriculum, listed by faculty below. If you are unsure of which Faculty you belong to, refer to our list of programs by faculty.

Note: If there is any discrepancy between the requirements listed here and the requirements in the academic calendar, the calendar is the official version. Program requirements are subject to change so we encourage you to check back often.

Returning Students

You can review your program’s requirements in the academic calendar of the year in which you entered your program. You can also log into MyDegree to track the courses you have previously taken against your program requirements and determine which courses you have left to complete your degree.

If you have any questions about your course registration plan, connect with your academic advisor before course registration opens for you.

Incoming Transfer Students

If you previously attended another postsecondary institution, you’ll need academic advice before you begin planning your schedule and registering for courses:

  1. Review the first-year program requirements for your program to determine if any of your transfer credits can fulfil these requirements. Some programs will also list specific registration information for transfer students.
  2. Connect with your academic advisor to discuss your course registration plan, and confirm which courses you should be registering in, before course registration opens for you.

If awarded transfer credits, a preliminary transfer credit assessment will be included in your Offer of Admission. Final transfer credit assessments are completed once we receive your official transcript directly from your previous institution, so have it sent to the Recruitment and Admissions office as soon as possible to ensure the best selection of courses.

Language Course Prerequisites

Before you register in a language course that requires a high school prerequisite, you must complete an override form from the Department of Languages and Literatures. 

If you are approved, you will receive email confirmation from the department and be able to register for the course in LORIS.

Calculus Preparation Evaluation

Are you required to take calculus as part of your program? Or perhaps you're thinking of taking a calculus course as an elective?

The Calculus Preparation Evaluation (CPE) is a mandatory online test you are required to complete before registering in one of Laurier's three entry-level calculus courses: MA100, MA102, or MA103; or in the precalculus course: SC101.

The test will help you determine which of the courses would be best suited to both your skills and your future goals. Consult the CPE guide to learn about the registration and testing processes.
