    Intake Process

If it is determined that you qualify for interim or ongoing accommodations, you will be invited to schedule an intake meeting with an accommodation consultant.

    Your Privacy

In order to protect your privacy and discuss your individualized needs in a postsecondary environment, these meetings are scheduled one to one with a consultant.

    Determining Accommodations

An accommodation consultant will meet with you to review your documentation, discuss any history of accommodations and gather information regarding how your academics have been impacted by functional limitations of your disability.

The consultant will discuss with you aspects of your program and potential accommodations that you may be eligible for. Depending on your needs and the documentation provided, either an ongoing or interim accommodation plan will be created.

    Accommodation Plans

Accommodation plans are always individualized for each student. Although you may know another student with a similar diagnosis, your accommodations may be different.

The purpose of an accommodation plan is not to guarantee success but to provide access, to remove barriers that allow equitable participation in a course. Accommodations cannot remove or modify essential course or program requirements.

    Graduate Students

The Accessible Learning Centre (ALC) recognizes that academic requirements differ at the graduate level. For example, there can be more independent research, thesis development and writing, and fieldwork, which may require different or more individualized accommodations. There may also be a discussion of program and placement requirements. The ALC has designated an accommodation consultant to meet with graduate students and to liaise with their department and the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies regarding accommodations.

    Preparing for Your Intake Appointment

In the days leading up to your intake appointment, please review the Prepare for Your Intake Appointment guidelines.
