TriAGe: Preparation for University Calculus

Review and deepen your understanding of core concepts, build a strong foundation and increase your chances of success in calculus with TriAGe!

TriAGe is a non-credit course designed to help prepare students who plan to enrol in an entry-level university calculus course by reinforcing fundamental skills in Trigonometry, Algebra, and Geometry.

Topics include:

  • algebraic manipulations used to simplify expressions and solve equations and inequalities;
  • analytic geometry;
  • polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions.

An experienced instructor will guide you through these topics and discuss specific learning strategies to help you with the transition from high school mathematics to university expectations. A final assessment will be provided to students who complete a set of assignments and an end-of-course evaluation.

  • Instructor: Tina Balfour (BA, BEd), manager of Mathematics and Statistics Learning Support
  • Course cost: $350

Built-in Flexibility

The majority of students who complete the TriAGe course do so over the summer months in order to prepare for an introductory calculus course in fall term; however, TriAGe can also be completed over any duration between June 2021 and April 2022, depending on student needs.

Prerequisite Equivalency

The Department of Mathematics at Laurier permits successful completion of the TriAGe course to be considered as an equivalency to the Grade 12 Advanced Functions prerequisite for MA100, MA102, and MA129. To be granted the equivalency, a final grade of 70% or better must be attained through completion of course assignments and the final evaluation.

The equivalency cannot be used directly towards program admission requirements (see the program academic advisor for any further information).
