Oct. 8 deadline for vaccination passport and second dose – and next steps
Updated: Oct. 13, 2021
In line with provincial government requirements and the university’s mandatory vaccination policy, Laurier requires all students to be vaccinated or have a valid exemption to attend in-person classes and activities on Laurier’s campuses.
Below you will find important updates, reminders and consequences related to the university’s vaccination requirements.
Updated: Everyone is asked to upload their vaccination status by Oct. 8.
- All students – including those who are fully remote for the fall term as well as those attending campus – are asked to upload their vaccination status to the vaccine passport on the SAFEHawk app to help fulfill the university’s reporting requirements to the Ministry of Colleges and Universities.
- Students submitting an exemption request under medical or other protected grounds under the Ontario Human Rights Code should do so as soon as possible. Those who have already submitted a request will receive a response before Oct. 8.
- Students will not face any consequences for not uploading their status if they aren’t attending a Laurier location in person during the fall term; the university is just asking for your assistance for its reporting.
Fall Term Requirements
Everyone must have received a second dose or exemption by Oct. 8 to attend a Laurier location in person for any reason.
- The university requires students to have received their second vaccination or an approved exemption no later than Oct. 8 to attend a Laurier location for in-person classes or any in-person activities in the fall term.
- Those who receive their second dose on Oct. 8 will remain in the rapid testing program until they are considered fully vaccinated on Oct. 22.
- The university is NOT requiring students learning remotely and who are not on a campus to be vaccinated in the fall term. They will still have access to remote and online programming.
Winter Term Requirements
Everyone must be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption before the start of winter term to attend a Laurier location in person.
- The university is planning to resume normal in-person operations in the winter term and students who are attending Laurier’s campuses or locations in person must be fully vaccinated for the winter term, which means receiving your second vaccination no later than Dec. 21, two weeks before the first day of classes Jan. 4.
Consequences for Non-Compliance
- Consequences outlined below are only for those attending a Laurier location in-person in fall term who don’t comply with the vaccination policy. If you haven’t uploaded your status or haven’t met the policy requirements to attend a Laurier location in person in fall term, you will receive a follow-up communication to confirm your situation.
- Students attending a Laurier location in the fall term who have not received two vaccination doses or an approved exemption by Oct. 8, may be subject to one or more of the following consequences:
- Unable to attend Laurier’s campuses or locations.
- Access to MyLearningSpace suspended for current in-person fall term courses.
- De-registered from fall in-person courses.
- Unable to take part in in-person winter-term courses, as full vaccination will be required for those coming to our campuses and facilities in the winter semester.
- The limited number of students who are enrolled in fully online degree programs (for example Laurier’s online policing or social work program) who are not required to attend a Laurier campus at any time during their degree program and who do not have any plans to visit a Laurier location at any time, do not fall under the university’s vaccination policy and are not required to upload their vaccination status.
Students who have completed the above vaccination passport requirements will be expected to follow all health and safety guidelines including mask-wearing, distancing and daily self- assessment to access a Laurier location.
