    Calendar Description

    This course concentrates on developing mastery of pre-calculus and introductory calculus skills and techniques. Pre-calculus topics include: solving equations and inequalities; algebraic, trigonometric, logarithmic and exponential functions and their properties. Calculus topics include: rates of change and tangents; differentiation of algebraic, trigonometric, exponential and logarithmic functions; integration; and techniques of integration.

    Prerequisites

    Completion of the Calculus Preparation Evaluation (CPE) and 12U Advanced Functions or permission of the department.

    Exclusions

    Prior credit for, or current enrolment in, any of MA101, MA102, MA103, MA110*, MA129. This course may not count for credit in Mathematics programs.

    Textbook

    Calculus for Medicine and Biology, 4th Edition, Claudia Neuhauser and Marcus Roper, Pearson.

    Calculators

    Students may only use the approved scientific calculator, Casio FX-300MS Plus, on course tests and the final examination. No other calculator is allowed. It is available for purchase at the campus bookstore.

    Evaluation

    A final mark out of 100 will be calculated as follows:

    • Lab Assignments (10): 25%
    • Lecture Quizzes (10): 5%
    • Midterm Exam (Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019 from 5:30 p.m. - 6:50 p.m.): 25%
    • Final Exam (2.5 hours; exact date, time and location to be announced): 45%

    To be eligible to pass this course, a student must score at least 40% on the final examination. The final mark will be reported as a letter grade in accordance with the conversion table of the current undergraduate calendar.
