    • Taking Courses After the Winter Term

Taking Courses After the Winter Term

    Jan. 30, 2025
    Print | PDF

In determining your GPA for admissions, we will consider your first five full credits, including any failed courses that you did not repeat in the spring.

We will consider courses you took after the winter term only if:

    1. They are repeated courses which are included as part of your first-year GPA in the marks we receive from the Registrar's Office.
      ~or~
    2. They are courses you had to take because you had completed fewer than the equivalent of five full credits by the end of the winter term, and they are included as part of your first-year GPA in the marks we receive from the Registrar's Office.

    New Marks

If you took courses after the winter term, as in "1" or "2" above, we will consider new marks that meet the following conditions:

    • We will only consider marks that appear in your online transcript by the application deadline,  September 5, 2025. If you think any grades from your spring courses will not be available by then, please send an email to coopadmissions@wlu.ca.
    • We will consider no more than the equivalent of five full credits. Once you repeat a course, the new mark replaces the earlier mark and becomes part of your overall GPA.
The Registrar's Office sets limits on the number of courses that may be repeated; make sure you check the academic calendar for regulations for your program.

    Review Process

After considering the courses you completed in the fall and winter, we will review the first-year courses you took in spring:

    • First, we will consider any courses you repeated and any required first-year courses you took during the spring term.
    • If there are no such courses, we will next consider any first-year elective courses you took after the winter term. (We will consider course you completed during intersession before those you completed during the summer term.)
    • If you completed three first-year electives at the same time, but needed only two to progress, we will consider the two highest marks.
    • If you are required to take a half credit, but you replace it with a course worth a full credit, we will give the mark the same weight as a half credit.

During the admission decision process following your interview, we may give you less credit for your marks than we give students who met progression requirements by the end of April.

For students applying to PEP, please review the information about taking courses after the winter term of second year at PEP Grade Requirements.
