Counselling Supports Around the Waterloo Campus
We know you have hectic, busy lives at Laurier, and we want to make it easier for you to connect with mental health support in a location that is convenient for you. On the Waterloo campus, our counsellors spend up to two days per week working outside the Student Wellness Centre in different faculties and areas to make it easier for you to fit counselling appointments into your schedule.
On the Waterloo campus, Laurier International and the Faculties of Arts, Science, Business, and Graduate Studies each have a counsellor from the Student Wellness Centre who spends dedicated time in that space. Additionally, the Athletics Department and Faculty of Music each have a counsellor connected to their area, but these appointments are held in the Student Wellness Centre. The goal of the project is to make it easier for you to access counselling by making appointments available in a location that works for you.
How It Works
Counselling appointments outside of the Student Wellness Centre are the same as the counselling appointments we offer in the Student Wellness Centre. We use a short-term, goal-directed model of care, and you will see your counsellor approximately every three weeks. We do not charge a fee for counselling services.
All of our counsellors are committed to collaborative, client-centred care within a safe therapeutic environment. They all have Master’s-level degrees in counselling, and they are all qualified to use a variety of therapeutic modalities to support you.
The goal of this project is to meet your needs better. You can ask to see a counsellor in your faculty area or another area of the university. You can come to the Student Wellness Centre, or you can have your appointment by phone or video. You will always follow up with the same counsellor, but you can switch between phone, video, and in-person appointments, and you can meet them in the Student Wellness Centre or their faculty office depending on what is most convenient for you.
How to Book an Appointment
You may request to see a counsellor in your own faculty or in any area that meets your needs. At the point of booking, we will tell you if we have booked you an appointment that is located outside the Student Wellness Centre, and we will include the location of the appointment in the confirmation email.

What About Brantford and Milton?
For now, counselling appointments are only held in the Student Wellness Centre on the Brantford campus, but we also offer appointments over the phone or video.
Counselling appointments are available for students on the Milton campus as well as by phone or video. Give us a call to book an appointment!
Urgent and Same-Day Support
We hold urgent and same-day space in the counselling schedule every day for students who are in crisis or need to talk to someone right away. Same-day counselling is scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis, and you will be offered the next available space. You can drop by or call us any time to inquire about same-day availability. Please make sure to tell us that you are asking for a same-day appointment.
Visit our Urgent and After-Hours Care page for support when we are closed.
