    • How to Maximize your Job Search

How to Maximize your Job Search

To get the most out of your job search, you need use multiple strategies to unlock opportunities and increase your chances of landing the job you want. There are two types of job searches, passive (traditional) and active (hidden job market).

A Successful Job Search = Pursuing Advertised Jobs + Tapping into the Hidden Job Market

    The Passive Job Search

Traditional job search strategies are passive and only tap into approximately 25% of the actual job market. This approach involves applying to advertised job postings from sources such as:

    • Navigator
    • Employer websites
    • Indeed, LinkedIn, and other job sites
PRO TIP: Maximize your passive job search by registering for job alerts and setting up a saved search on Navigator.

    The Active Job Search

An active job search involves seeking opportunities outside of advertised job postings. These opportunities represent the hidden job market.

Job seekers often start with online job boards, but employers tend to hire through networking, internal promotions, and employee referrals. Focusing on where employers are looking maximizes your chances and increases the number of opportunities.

Did you know: The hidden job market represents at least 75% of job openings.

The Key Components of an Active Job Search Involve

    • Researching industries, organizations and roles
    • Networking in-person and online
    • Prospecting connections to foster opportunities
