Join a Club or Council
Beyond the Sustainability Office's events and campaigns, student organizations are another great way to get engaged on-campus with sustainability initiatives. The student-run sustainability clubs, councils and associations are always looking for new members to join. From taking part in advocacy work to clean-ups, you'll find a club that suits your interests in sustainability. If you want to get involved, connect with one of the student clubs or councils below!
This club aims to build on the momentum of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in efforts to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. The 17 SDGs cover three dimensions of sustainable development: economic growth, social inclusion and environmental protections. Our club's focus is to educate and advocate for the partnerships of these goals.

EcoHawks works to raise awareness of environmental issues, promote sustainable living and encourage the reduction of individuals' ecological footprints. To achieve these goals, we hold a number of events and promotions throughout the school year. Our mission is to encourage the development of environmentally-friendly and sustainable living habits of students and to work towards limiting Laurier’s ecological footprint. There is no "Planet B" so let’s make it count!

The Sustainability Council (Waterloo) and Sustainability and Social Change Council (Brantford) are comprised of first-year students from across Laurier's campuses who aim to unify residence life and the Sustainability Office by creating integrated programming and providing increased access to campus resources. The councils promote environmental awareness, reducing consumption and making Laurier's campuses greener.
Students involved in these councils collaborate on planning, promoting and executing residence-wide events and programming that enable the first-year community to engage in sustainable activities and learn about their environmental impact.
C3 Innovation Labs (C3IL) is a hub of socially innovative and community-engaged experiential learning opportunities in the Faculty of Arts. C3IL creates these opportunities with a unique partnership among the three ‘Cs’:
- the Laurier campus
- the tri-cities (Waterloo, Kitchener and Cambridge)
- our local communities

This club aims to inform students on Laurier's Waterloo campus about the many opportunities in health care around the world while learning about different health-related issues faced by nations around the globe. HBB allows hawks to explore beyond what is familiar in Canada through facilitating educational seminars and volunteer opportunities abroad to gain exposure beyond the classroom (e.g. Me to We, Save a Child's Heart, Gap Medics). Anyone interesting in giving back to the global health community is welcome to join our initiatives which will include sending first aid kits abroad as well as fundraising for relief efforts in international communities. Open your mind to the global medical community and learn about health through others' eyes!
Be an Innovator
Since 2015, the Sustainability Office has dedicated up to $30,000 annually to help grow sustainability ideas that benefit the Laurier community (including you) through the Sustainable Hawk Fund (SHF). We want to leverage Laurier’s entrepreneurial and community spirit by engaging students, faculty and staff to integrate sustainability practices into all aspects of student life at Laurier.
