Enhanced Support for Laurier Graduate Student Researchers
As the university and its graduate students continue to adapt to current conditions, the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies recognizes that students may incur unexpected costs related to their academic pursuits and is pleased to be able to announce the following special initiatives.
Top-up Funding for Doctoral Students
With the approval of the university’s senior leadership, each full-time doctoral student who, in fall 2020, is enrolled in terms up to term 13 (1 semester past the funding period) has received a top-up of $1,000 to their funding package. The funding will be applied in equal instalments against the fall and winter semester and is intended to help support any additional costs the students have incurred as a result of the pandemic.
Special One Time Award for Research Related Expenses Incurred Due to COVID-19
During these trying times, the FGPS is committed to continuing to support our students. We understand that the pandemic has impacted various areas of academia, with research progression being especially affected. In response, the FGPS has launched a Special One Time Award for Research Related Expenses Incurred Due to COVID-19. Our goal is to ease financial concerns and assist students to continue with their research. Eligible students may receive this award one time, up to a maximum of $500, for incurring research-related expenses due to COVID-19, in either the spring 2020 or fall 2020 terms. Full-time doctoral and master’s students in a research-intensive program who are within their normal funding period as of August 31, 2020, were eligible to apply, with a submission deadline (for spring and fall 2020 expenses) of December 1, 2020. To date, 16 students have received financial support through this opportunity.
