
Learning Skills and Development Online
Learning Skills and Development Online offers students at Laurier’s Brantford campus a range of online resources within the MyLearningSpace environment. Learning Skills and Development Online includes helpful handouts, interactive modules, discussion groups and access to our Live Classroom. Through Live Classroom, you can join a facilitated study group or drop-in session hosted by peer mentors who can answer your study skills and writing questions.
Students in BF190 also use the Learning Skills and Development Online MyLS hub to access the academic integrity module and quiz.
Accessing Learning Skills and Development Online
Learning Skills and Development Online is accessible through your course list on MyLS.
Search for “Learning Skills and Development Online” by clicking on the nine-square drop-down menu and type the text into the course search bar. If you're not sure where to find these features, watch this short video:
We do our best to automatically enroll all new students in September. If you are a Laurier Brantford student and do not have Learning Skills and Development Online in your course list, email us.
Features of Learning Skills and Development Online
Learning Skills and Development Online contains a variety of resources and opportunities for students to engage in learning support. These resources are reviewed on a regular basis and offer you a hub for academic support.

Remote and Online Learning Support
Get support to navigate your online or remote course(s), ask questions and discuss strategies for success in a virtual learning environment through our Online Learner Discussion Group.
Students can choose to access and participate in this discussion forum for our virtual learners. Our team of peer mentors and professional staff are moderating the discussion group and can answer your questions about learning in online and remote courses.
To enroll in the online learner discussion group:
- Log in to MyLS.
- Navigate to the Learning Skills and Development page.
- Click the "Groups" tab at the top of the page.
- Click "View Available Groups."
- Select Online Learners Discussion Group and click "Join Group."
Workshop Materials
When you participate in our academic skills workshops, you gain access to the workshop materials through the MyLS hub. Materials might include presentation slides or other referenced resources. After you complete a workshop, log in to MyLS and navigate to Learning Skills and Development Online. You’ll find the workshop materials in the “Content” section titled Academic Skills Workshops.
Live Classroom
Our online Live Classroom is used for a variety of peer-led learning support programming offered by Learning Skills and Development. This includes facilitated study groups, graduate writing groups, Indigenous student drop-in and virtual teach-ins, and BTM student drop-in.
Through the Live Classroom, you can text-chat or use VOIP with a headset/mic to communicate. We do not record any of the virtual sessions we run and we never require students to be on webcam.
Accessing the Live Classroom
The following are step by step instructions on how to access the Online Live Classroom.
Step 1: Log into your MyLearningSpace Account.
- Enter your username and password.
- Click "Login."
Step 2: Access the "Learning Skills and Development Online" tab from your course selections.
- Use "Select a Course" drop-down menu beside "My Home," or
- Navigate to "Learning Skills and Development Online" under "My Courses."
Step 3: Select the "Click here to access the Live Classroom" button under "Live Classroom" heading in the top left of the screen.
Step 4: This link will prompt you to open Microsoft Teams and join the live classroom. You now have access to all of the help that we can provide!
Academic Integrity Module for BF190
Students registered in BF190 complete an academic integrity module and quiz developed and administered by Learning Skills and Development. This content is on our the MyLS page and is only accessible to students currently registered in BF190.
Accessing the Module
Find the Academic Integrity Module in the “Course Content” section of the Learning Skills and Development Online MyLS page. The module and quiz are not within your BF190 MyLS course, but within the Learning Skills and Development Online MyLS page. The module is only available to students registered in BF190. If you don't see the module, email us.
Accessing the Quiz
The Academic Integrity quiz will only appear after you have reviewed all the content in the Academic Integrity module. If you do not yet see the quiz, you may have not reviewed the module in its entirety.
Remember that you need a grade of 70% to receive the full 10% for this portion of your grade in BF190. If you take the quiz and receive a grade below 70%, you will have the opportunity to participate in our Citing Sources Successfully workshop. Registration for these workshops will open the week after the academic integrity quiz closes.
